As if this apartment wasn’t architecturally striking enough in its own right — with its rows of tall French windows, high ceilings and wood flooring — it was recently made over in honor of one of the 20th century’s most famous artists. Pablo Picasso once lived in the neighborhood; in fact, if you look out one of the windows, a mural tribute to him on the building opposite fills the frame perfectly.
An apartment devoted to the great artist could take so many forms, but the owners of this space took their time to get it right. We love the bold use of color, the amusing Cubist bathroom backsplash, the “Joie de Vivre” inspired stained-glass window panels, the mix-and-match furnishings, and the large dove wall mural. All of which pay tribute to an artist who thought outside the box, and changed quite a few subjects into cubes.
This is a vacation home rental in Madrid for lovers of art, but it’s also for lovers of comfort. A Feng Shui expert was called in to refine the space, and careful attention has been paid to pleasing the senses. The result is a visual feast and a gourmet kitchen, cotton sheets and soft bath towels, relaxing shower gels, and the miracle of peace and quiet in the center of one of Europe’s liveliest cities.
