Situated on a slope of Serra do Sicó in the Beiras region of Portugal, this mid century school house was part of a village that had been abandoned for over 70 years. Discovered and resurrected by a group of friends that were charmed by its unique beauty and idyllic location, the entire village of eight houses was restored and brought back to life.
Carefully respecting the spirit of the region and the historic aesthetics of the structures, this mid-century commercial space remains largely intact in its original form with a simple contemporary renovation that showcases the more industrial flavor of the space.
Arranged over one floor, the bright open-plan spaces are cleverly divided by low-slung walls with gleaming floors and banks of large windows and high ceilings. With a 1970s-inspired collection of eclectic, contemporary and ethnic deor and furnishings, the ambience is simple and comfortable. Divided into two separate spaces, there is one bedroom and bath and fully-equipped kitchen with dining for four inside and an expansive and very private walled terrace and gardens.
The adjacent restaurant in the village provides simple and delicious locally sourced fare nightly from a rotating menu and a few breakfast snacks in the mornings. The extensive rambling gardens and terraces offer plenty of fresh air and unspoiled country vistas and a lovely shared pool. You can watch the swans and ducks on the small lake and enjoy fresh eggs from the house chickens.
This is a truly unique retreat where you can embrace the peace and serenity of country life with stylish contemporary comforts. Please visit this page for more rental options in this unique village.
