Overlooking the Vechte river with private access to its waterfront, this modern cabin rental in the Netherlands is located in the country’s central eastern region of forested woodlands and meadows.
The second in a series of innovative pre-fab home concepts, owners and designers Arno Schuurs and Paulien van Noort of the Netherlands based Qoncepts agency created the cabin as a model for innovative holiday homes.
Constructed in six prefabricated sections off site, the parts were transported to and installed on site using an innovative and simple screw foundation technique placing the structure above ground level. Using beautiful, all natural and low maintenance materials including untreated Douglas for the facade, acoya-wood for the window panes, concrete flooring and raw steel, the home is a modern homage to the rustic country cabin.
The smart layout combines a modest footprint that creates the illusion of space, with large windows that illuminate the interiors and bring the outside in. The main living area features a sunken lounge space with a cozy fireplace and cleverly integrated built-in custom seating and dining areas along with a fully equipped kitchen. There are two double bedrooms that can sleep up to four. Mixing pitch black accents with a neutral palette adds drama and sophistication for a rustic modern feel.
During the summer months you can have a swim right off of the deck or wander into the trails and river front walk that border the property. The deck and seating areas are perfect for dining outdoors and enjoying nature.
Wifi, area guides, kitchen and bath essentials, linens included. Firewood provided.
The Netherlands central eastern province of Overijssel is home to much of the country’s rich history and natural beauty. The immediate area surrounding the cabin is dotted with forests and meadows and is ideal for nature lovers. An ancient glacial landscape, the area offers an extensive network of hiking and biking trails.
The small walkable village of Dalfsen lies along the opposite banks of the Vecht River just fifteen minutes outside of the province’s capital of Zwolle. An atmospheric town of 14th and 15th century architecture, fortifications and a series of moats, the town’s past as a trading hub and cultural center is still evident within the ancient town gates.
Summers are lively and a little more crowded with a central weekend market that becomes more of a party and an array of street festivals. Amsterdam lies ninety minutes west.
