AROUND

Cilento is an ancient cultural land that has long been identified as the cradle of the Mediterranean. You may have heard of the American biologist and nutritionist Ancel Keys. In recent years, scientists from all over the world have been drawn to Cilento and Acciaroli to try to understand the secret of healthy aging, which means the area is on its way to qualifying as a scientifically confirmed blue zone, alongside the Japanese island of Okinawa, the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica, Ogliastra in eastern Sardinia and the Greek island of Ikaria. As in the other blue zones, there is hardly just one reason why so many people are over 100 years old. For a long life, a combination of healthy food, physical activity, stable social networks and a sense of meaning in life are all needed.

Inspired by the nutritional values and cuisine of countries around the Mediterranean Sea, the Mediterranean Diet, recently named a World Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, was born in Cilento.

In this fantastic land have been left the marks of the great history, indeed Cilento is universally renowed as the “Land of the Myth” because in the past it hosted important settlements of the Romans, Lucans and Greek. Today inside this limitless territory there are two imperious statements of antiquity: the archeological areas of Paestum and Velia, splendours from the classical period.

The awe of history here is slightly stunning. It was here that the founder of Rome, Aeneas, is said to have made shore first in western Italy after the battle of Troy, and it is also said to be here along the coast that the sirens called on Odysseus with their songs. Whether it is the food, the herbs or the genes is yet to be completely determined, but one thing is for sure, there is certainly lust for life here.

Villammare is an ancient fishing village at the foot of the extensive Cilento National Park. The Park takes in one of the most attractive strip of the Tyrrhenian coast swathed by the vivid colours of the Mediterranean flora.

Long sandy beaches, a colourful seafront fringed with palms and eucalyptus trees, small restaurants, cosy venues and cottages make of Villammare the perfect seaside resort for travellers from all over the world, in search of friendly and charming spots off the beaten track.

Breathtaking views from the hills covered with centuries-old cork oaks, trekking the mountains and cruising along the Cilento coast, mouth-watering regional cuisine and the special friendliness of the locals captivate visitors all year round.

This was an incredible place to vacation for my family. If you want to escape to the real Italy, away from the tourists but experience the best of the Italian coast – this is a gem! The pictures do no justice to this place. The villa is full of all the luxuries we needed. The bedrooms were all very large with good design and great amenities. The bathrooms were well stocked and extremely clean – as was the whole houses immaculate. The kitchen was great and a fun place to prepare food. The outdoor kitchen was also a real treasure at night for long dinners with our large group. There are many eating areas and balconies with well appointed seating for morning coffees, afternoon reading and evening cocktails. Lots of space to get some quiet time. Our family enjoyed so much time at the pool. It’s huge and has great steps leading into if you have little ones. There was a box full of pool toys too which was brilliant for our group. There was also a great slide and swing set in the garden – it is an endless activity center for a family. The villa is surrounded with lots of delicious fruit trees and everyday we picked lemons, plums, peaches as we played in the garden. It was magic. Perhaps the best part of the trip was our host Marzio and his team. He was incredible helping us plan activities before and during our stay (definitely recommend the boat trip and booking dinner at his local favorites). He shared with us his family wine – which tasted even better with the stories he shared about his family. Maria the housekeeper keeps the home immaculate and always there to help with anything we needed. They really made us feel welcome and shared the best of Italian hospitality. We will be back to stay again – it was heaven.

The villa is wonderful. A fantastic location with sea views and private surrounds. Marzio our host made sure all our needs were fully met. Gardens pretty with apricot orchards set against blue sea vistas. The pool was hard to clamber out of. Perfect temperature (June) Equally the nearby sea was so clean and clear and delicious to swim in. Heavenly. Diversity of activities in this area. Cilento national park has stunning mountain scenery tumbling down to the sea. Hiking to waterfalls. Boat trips. One of the best family holidays we have ever had.

  • Renu S, August 15, 2018

We spent a week here in August 2018 for a family reunion and holiday. We were 5 adults and 5 children (aged 6 to 15). We had an amazing week at Le Cannicelle – one that we will remember forever!
The Villa is a gorgeous 3 floor structure and we rented the entire villa. On the first floor (or ground) are 3 bedrooms (one facing the sea, and the other two facing inwards), a large living and dining space, 2 full bathrooms and a nice spacious kitchen. There are two doors that open up to a covered patio that looks over some lovely flowers and out down over the sea. There is also an outdoor dining area and then at a lower level a complete outdoor kitchen. The 2nd floor has a contained 1 bedroom unit with its own living room (with a sofa bed), kitchen, dining area and a bathroom – and the 3rd floor is also another independent bedroom unit (smaller than 2nd floor) but also with a small outdoor patio.
The villa is luxurious and comes with a housekeeper who shows up every day from 9am to 1pm (except Thursdays). This is a huge help as it kept the villa clean and many chores done allowing us to spend more time with our families. From my earliest interactions with Marzio (the owner) I felt just incredibly comfortable in speaking to him. He is a genuinely caring person who goes out of his ways to ensure that his guests have an amazing time and he is always accessible (we had him on whatsapp). He went above and beyond to make the house comfortable and accessible for each of our family members.
The villa has the most stunning views from all floors looking out towards the hills further south and out into the beautiful sea. The pool is incredibly well kept and we spent at least 3 days lounging by the pool. There is plenty to do (boat excursions, beaches, driving to nearby villages or further out to Pompeii or Naples) or not do and just chill at Villamare. It is a little out of the way – but we loved that as it allowed us to experience a part of Italy that most foreign tourists never get to. The people of Villamare and surrounding villages are incredibly friendly even though they may not speak much English. The food and wine is amazing. -Marzio connected us to a chef who came and cooked many delicious 3 course meals for us.
Upon our return I asked one of our 9 year old twins what was his favorite part of his stay at the villa, and he responded “Everything!”. Yes, we all agree. Thanks Marzio for an unforgettable family reunion.

Le Cannicelle was a perfect choice for us. Several friends from Rome and I shared the entire house for 2 weeks and we couldn’t have been happier. The house is lovely, spacious, and beautifully decorated. The photos don’t do the decor of the first floor justice. It’s even more elegant than the pictures. And the kitchen is a dream. The location is breathtaking, the garden stunning, the pool is perfect, etc. Marzio’s care and love for the property is in evidence everywhere. And the housekeeper, Anna, is an absolute marvel. We loved being able to invite our friends to stay in the apartments upstairs. It’s really the perfect situation for guests; we got to eat together and spend the day together but whenever we or our guests wanted it, there was always privacy to be found. We also fell in love the the Basso Cilento. Villammare is tiny but has two wonderful restaurants. We rented a boat a couple of times to explore Punta degli Infreschi and Cala Bianca and both days were unforgettable. We love the house and can’t wait to go back.

This is the second time we spend our holiday at Villa le Cannicelle. Once during the summer period in 2014 and now during autumn with a group of 9 people and we used all floors.

Both our holidays were unforgetable. We were warmly welcomed by the owner, which made us feel at home immediately and during our stay he helped us with any question we had.

The house is fully equipped and lives up to every expectation you might have. The beds are good, the kitchen has everything you need for a big family and washing machine is available. The kids loved the pool. There are terraces all around the house to enjoy the sun all day whilst the views are spectacular!

We enjoyed the outside kitchen with bbq and pizza oven, stayed outside late on the covered terrace even in our autumn holiday.

The house and grounds are very well looked after with a lot of love and eye for detail.

The housekeeper will come in every day, a great luxury and a lovely person. There is lot to do around Villamare, the beach, a boattrip but also cultural visits like Peastum.

Both times we returned home feeling a little sad to leave this wonderful place, but promissing to come back.

    Swimming pool was very clean.

The villa is very well presented. The service level of the staff is excellent. Villa is in a good position in Villammare – close to beach, shops and restaurants/cafes although the car is recommended. Private pool very clean. Good design and layout. We would stay again and would recommend to others.

Just spent our fourth holiday at Campania Seaview Villa and we’re still amazed by the beauty of this villa and it’s surrounding gardens. You can really enjoy privacy there in the middle of beautiful hillside nature and the view to the sea is stunning. The building as well as the gardens are very well maintained. Everything was spotless and worked perfectly. Once again we want to thank the friendly owner and the whole “team Campania Seaview Villa” for a great week!

We could not have spent a better time at Campania Seaview Villa. The warm reception, absolutely stunning views and peaceful surroundings will hopefully have us going back time and time again. The house is immaculate and very well equipped with beautiful views from every room. The swimming pool is the perfect size and with 2 families with 5 small children the perfect sized garden was a huge bonus. Thanks to Campania Seaview Villa’s great list of places to visit we very much enjoyed all the surrounding areas with fine Italian views and great uncrowded beaches. Thank you for a superb holiday.

“Campania Seaview Villa” is off the beaten track for all but the Italians, who seem to flock there from the urban sprawl of the Southern Cities. The area is nevertheless very friendly to those from outside Italy, since the locals are pleased not to say delighted by their arrival of strangers. Certainly this was our experience. The Villa, too, is lovely, with a wonderful deep pool for diving and larking about in. The house is large and well kept, with a wonderfully large main room in the largest of the apartments. The villa”s location too makes for superb views of the bay, and is distant from the commotion of the beach below.

A spotless and peaceful villa, overlooking the Bay of Policastro, near to two towns Villamare, a gem, and Sapri, which has wonderful food shops (fishmongers , old market, fresh pasta shop etc )
We had it all to ourselves but it would suit a family group staying in the different and well decorated appartments. Anna, the housekeeper, helped us with anything we wanted and the owners were very hospitable.

Me and my family enjoied our holiday at Villa Le Cannicelle. Cilento National Park was a perfect destination for our annual family meeting at the sea. Actually this villa is an ideal solution for a family like us travelling with children and grandparents. Moreover there was an excellent housekeeping service. We are sure that one day we will come back.

    “Perfect host, lovely Villa!”
We arrived late Saturday evening, our host Marzio was very patient with us as we had travelled all the way from South Wales, UK down to Southern Italy. The villa is lovely. Marzio told us that originally it was a small farm house, he has pictures to show it. It is now a lovely spacious villa, with plenty of room. Clean and very well kept gardens. the pool is beautfiul and Anna the housekeeper comes in daily to keep everything tip top without being intrusive. The gardens have lovely lemon and lime trees which give off a lovely fragrance. there is an outside taverna with cooking area which we used and enjoyed. it is perfectly safe there and ideal for families and group bookings.
there is a Spar supermarket very near to buy all your groceries.
The views from the terraces of the villa are stunning overlooking Sapri and the Mareata coast, well worth a drive. Other others of interest Agropoli, Paestum etc are in reasonable travel distance.
    We would genuinely recommend…
