Built by Icelandic architect Agla Marta Marteinsdóttir in 2010, this vacation home rental in Iceland is situated on a gently sloping mountain overlooking the starkly beautiful and ancient volcanic landscapes of the south.
Spacious, warm and modern, the main focus in the layout is communal living with the spotlight on the natural surroundings.
The main living area on the first floor is the heart of the house, with a fully equipped modern kitchen and dining area that divides the lounge areas. Large windows capture the exquisite views and illuminate the interiors from every room.
The mid-section combines three bedrooms, two singles and two doubles, sleeping up to six guests. The geothermal heating warms the interiors throughout the seasons, both inside the house and outside in the jacuzzi for admiring the northern lights.
The grounds are kept wild with natural vegetation, attracting migrating birds, geese and swans who are regular guests in the area.
Wifi throughout, cable TV, kitchen and bath amenities, laundry facilities, outdoor grill, private parking.
Just over an hour’s drive inland from the cultural and urban center of the capital of Reykjavik, the Skalholt region founded in 1056 in Holtabyggð, is one of the oldest in the country and is a real treat for history buffs. The small town of Fludir is the local village with shops and cafes to stop, and there are miles of hiking trails in and around nearby Langholtsfjall mountain.
Don’t miss the “Golden Circle” route, where Eurasia meets North America featuring some of the island’s most amazing natural beauty and the famous volcano Mount Hekla with it’s strange and beautiful lava fields. Adjacent to Þingvellir National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Thingvallavatn (the largest lake in Iceland), the house is also within a short drive to Hengill volcanic area, the river Öxará, Gullfoss waterfall, the hot springs area of Geysir, and the Kerid crater for both winter and summer attractions.
