A Mid-Century Corsican Hotel Restored
Discovered by chance on a return trip in 2011, this vacation home rental in Corsica inspired its new owner to switch gears into island life after over a decade in Paris. The site of a former hotel built in 1960, the property was in need of a bit of a lift. Seeing the potential in an unpolished gem, the owner who is Corsican, enlisted friends and family whose expertise in hospitality, design and architecture brought the property back to life with a renewed sense of purpose.
Set among the lush greenery and ancient oaks of the western coast of the island, this vacation home rental in Corsica is a few minute's walk from the Gulf of Porto and Bussaglia beach surrounded by wilderness.
Straightforward and uncomplicated, the property was restored and designed to highlight the interplay of the old and new, with subtle modern comforts embedded within the bones of the vintage structures, and raw natural accents that keep it simple.
Comprised of two separate buildings, one houses a reception hall and lounge for gathering and socializing. There are two apartments to choose from, each with a fully-equipped kitchen and sitting room, one overlooking the valley with a bit of a sea view, the other overlooking the gardens. The terrace and gardens are accessible for all guests as is the swimming pool that stretches out to the views.
Situated between the mountains and the sea, surrounded by history and nature, this is a peaceful and secluded getaway.
CORSICA'S WESTERN COAST
The western Corsican coastline offers some of most beautiful scenery on the island, with the Gulf of Porto and its small sandy beaches, peaceful sheltered coves and dramatic rock formations just a few minutes walk. One of the most scenic routes on the island, the road winds through several natural wonders.
The famous Calanques de Piana are lined with incredible pinkish granite walls above the sea with one of the best ways to explore being by boat, where you'll get an amazing perspective on these ancient monolithic formations.
Twenty minutes south is Gorges de Spelunca, a scenic river valley that snakes through the mountains with amazing hiking trails and scenic natural beauty to explore.
Forty minutes north is the Scandola Nature Reserve. A UNESCO Heritage site, it includes thousands of square acres of protected and unspoiled habitat of both land and sea. Unreachable by car and somewhat impassable on foot, the best way to appreciate its beauty is from a boat.
