Built at the turn of the century, this luxury villa in Croatia has been given a fresh modern makeover but with a relaxed, natural feel that is both stylish and casual. We like the subtle mix of rustic and contemporary materials and detail, and the fab poolside spaces designed with holiday fun in mind.
Located in the tiny hamlet of Barat on the Istrian Peninsula, this luxury villa in Croatia was restored in a carefully crafted integration of it’s original character and rural style.
Built in 1921, the old stone house was originally a farm house and is placed far away from urban life. Recently renovated, both the exteriors and interiors feature the authentic original stonework with restorations using rustic materials such as concrete, limestone, large paving tiles and blonde wood to update and expand the spaces.
The ground floor living room is spacious and bright with a sitting area and open plan kitchen and dining area. There is one en suite ground floor bedroom and two additional en suite doubles on the second floor. Each are dreamy spaces with a calming palette and uncluttered feel.
The house is furnished and decorated with unique, original decor and detail from iTaMacrame and natural accent pieces mixed with modern design.
The outside spaces are designed for relaxation and holiday fun around the pool, with a shady pergola and plenty of lounge spaces.

AROUND
The largest and northern most peninsula in the Adriatic, Istria is predominantly rural in the interior with lovely villages, rolling hills, forests and vineyards. The quiet inland village of Barat is surrounded by woods and olive groves and lies just thirty minutes from the numerous resorts along the rocky western coast, including the 6th century Roman settlement town of Poreč. Stretching for miles from north to south, the area is a busy summer holiday destination. The enchanting ancient fishing town of Rovinj, with it’s tightly knit cobbled stone streets and historic old town is just a forty minute drive with a lovely archipelago of islands offshore. The fishing port town of Novigrad is an architectural and historical gem and lies thirty minutes north and the city of Pula with its ancient Roman Amphitheater and the Hapsburg era seaside resort cities of Opatija and Lovran along the Kvarner Bay is an hour south.
