What we like about this property

There’s something very refreshing about this space – a bright, contemporary one-bedroom cottage set among vineyards on the North Island of New Zealand. Built c.1975 by Te Awanga architect Steve McGavock, it was recently refurbished by interior designers Bibby+Brady, creating a beautiful space for a couple. A delightful little vacation home for rent in New Zealand.

Description

This contemporary cottage is located in a sustainable vineyard in the Te Awanga region of Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, and overlooks fields full of Chardonnay, Caberet Franc, Malbec, Merlot and Chambourcin grapes. It’s the perfect setting for wine lovers, and great for romantic getaways.

The cottage was built c.1975 by architect Steve McGavock for his parents, but was recently renovated by interior design team Bibby+Brady. It’s an elegant space, with clean, modern lines, but there is also a softness to it that’s very inviting – the curves of the armchairs and stools, the lampshades and doorknobs. We love the use of tile – the small white hexagons in the bathroom, and the terracotta that covers the patio floors.

Other lovely features include the polished interior floors, great vaulted ceilings with lots of native rimu and matai timber, the coffee bar in the kitchen that overlooks the vineyard, and the office nook with a tiny loft above it, reached by ladder. A great vacation home for rent in New Zealand for one or two guests.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

The first morning’s breakfast is provided, as are bedlinen and towels. The kitchen has a coffee bar, espresso machine, oven and stovetop, refrigerator, and microwave. Other amenities include bicycles, Smart TV with cable (Sky), SONOS WiFi speaker, DVD player, Netflix, Spotify, iPad, fan, heating, air conditioning, laundry, iron and board, hair dryer, gas barbecue, umbrellas, and covered parking.

AROUND

The cottage is well situated, within easy reach of multiple destinations. It’s a 3-minute drive to the Te Awanga and Haumoana beaches, and 20 minutes to Ocean Beach. It’s 10 minutes to the cliffs of Cape Kidnappers (and its golf club), 10 minutes to the village of Havelock North (for shopping, dining and festivals), and 10 minutes to the historic Art Deco city of Napier.

The Haumoana and Te Awanga region is known for its wineries (Elephant Hill, Clearview, Te Awanga and Beach House are all within easy reach), and the house is located on the Te Awanga Wine Trail Loop. Guests are encouraged to drive, walk or take the cottage bicycles out and ride the loop, which takes about 20 minutes.

The Cottage is just an amazing place to stay, such a special location and experience, I want to go back already! There is no better accommodation in this area and we only wish we could have stayed longer! Where do we even begin? First, nothing beats the gorgeous view overlooking Kim and Bruce’s vineyards. Second, the decor and the cottage itself is beautifully designed. The interior design is magnificent, with everything from the furniture to the light fixtures carefully thought out. The place is immaculate and extremely clean. Third, Bruce and Kim have thought of every possible amenity you can think of: from full kitchen set and laundry to awesome espresso machine to full kitchen set and Netflix to SONOS sound system. If you have thought of any amenity, you will certainly find it at The Cottage. With the two great bikes provided (helmet and lock too!) we were well equipped to explore the many vineyards in the area. Kim and Bruce also provided us with a bottle of wine made from their very own grapes and a wonderful breakfast basket. Kim and Bruce were there if you needed them but gave absolute privacy. If you are looking for a magical getaway on a vineyard, this is it!

What an incredible little spot! So beautiful and you have thought of everything. A great base to explore the region from, and come back to sip wine and enjoy some Netflix. We loved our stay – the cottage was so well appointed and beautifully designed. Only a $35 taxi into havelock north, and a stone’s throw from the beach (bike there with the bikes provided!) Just wonderful.
    We’ll be back, thanks Kim!

The cottage was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed for our long weekend trip. It’s perfectly situated close to both Nelson and Hastings and also many local wineries. Kim was a great host and provided us with a lovely breakfast on our first day including fresh eggs and milk. I will definitely be recommending the cottage to friends and family.

Recently and tastefully refurbished cottage in a lovely setting. A great place to go as a couple. Seems to have everything there including his and hers bikes (which we didn’t get to use this trip but certainly hope to another time. ) Highly recommend it!

    Kim & Bruce,
You really have thought of everything. In all our travels, we have never felt more comfortable in a lodging. The setting is stunning and the cottage is so charming. Like so many other guests have said, we wish we had more time here in your little paradise. Best of Luck with the grapes and the cottage.

This is a perfect place to stay and we are seasoned travelers. The cottage is beautiful with gorgeous views. It is meticulously clean and unbelievably well apportioned. You have everything you need from kitchen and appliances, laundry intelligently planned rooms, comfortable beds, wonderful outside patio where you sit and watch the vineyard. This cottage, situated on a vineyard, is breathtaking in its views. It is comfortable but not stuffy. There are biked. The area is full of interesting and fun things to see and do. Kim and Bruce are very gracious hosts from the stocked breakfast, bottle of wine, and their company of course Our one big regret is that we didn’t stay longer, only two nights. This is a perfect getaway, don’t miss it!!

Kimberly’s place was perfect for our three day break from our van! The location is great amongst the vineyards and close enough to Hastings and Napier in case you need anything. However you won’t need much as they have thought of everything in the cottage. The check in was seamless and Kimberly was available if ever we needed her, which we didn’t, as everything was set! As a comfy bed expert, I can confirm the bed and linen were heavenly. Thank you for our lovely romantic stay…our breakfasts at the coffee bar gazing out at the vineyard was the best way to wake up!

This place was amazing. The pictures don’t do it justice. To be able to have breakfast looking out on a vineyard was so relaxing. The bikes are great for an easy ~15-20 minute ride to multiple vineyards. This is a great place for business as well as personal travel as it has all of the amenities to be your home away from home. This was the best place we have ever stayed at.

Simply Perfect! We are so glad to have found this place. It is unbelievably charming, romantic and cozy, and the furnishings are quite beautiful. Kim & Bruce have thought of so many tiny details that truly deliver on the experience. We especially enjoyed sitting on the covered patio, drinking wine, reading and enjoying the views. We have already booked our next stay! Thank you so very much.

Many thanks to Kim & Bruce for such a beautiful and relaxing stay. Your cottage is beautiful and in such a nice setting. Very romantic looking at your vineyards. Thanks for the nice small touches, the Chardonnay, the nice bread, eggs and jam. It was such a nice welcome! Hope one day we’ll stay here again! Best wishes.

What a find! Pleased that we did that one last search and found this lovely place. From the fresh flowers to the tech (to keep the man happy), nothing was missed! Stylish, clean and bikes to ride to the vineyards. What more could we want. Thank you!

Having been traveling for more than a month, what a delight to arrive at Chambourcin Cottage. This is a very new and beautifully furnished cottage with a view over the owners’ vineyard. This very attractive place is immaculately maintained and appointed with only the best quality from linens to cutlery (sharp knives!) to bicycles (two, with helmets). A treat to find a washer & dryer and we were greeted with a bottle of nice wine and all the ingredients for a great breakfast. The owners are friendly and helpful. It is well located, only a short pedal from the beach or the Elephant Hill winery (our favorite of three tried here, for both the food and the wine). About 15 minutes drive to Te Mata Peak which is not to be missed. I can highly recommend the Chambourcin Cottage with no hesitation.

This place is incredible! So glad I chose to stay here; it was the highlight of my accomodations in NZ for sure. The cottage is beautiful and spacious. The bed was insanely comfortable, shower was great, and the kitchen had everything I needed. Enjoyed a great breakfast with fresh eggs. The bikes were nice to have to ride to the nearby wineries. I also enjoyed sitting on the patio with the view of Kimberly’s own vineyard, drinking the bottle of wine she left upon check in. Every detail is so well thought out! Thanks for the lovely stay; I can’t wait to come back!

This place is a hidden treasure! The view is relaxing and peaceful, and the ocean is a 2 minute drive away. It’s situated not far from town, so grabbing food was super easy and we had hikes, wineries and city exploring (Napier) all within our reach. Kim was great in communicating with us prior to check in and had several goodies for us to enjoy over our stay. We definitely plan on staying here again!

Wow! This cottage is truly amazing. Wonderfully romantic with every detail covered to make the stay perfect! The use of the bikes (which are in excellent condition) was wonderful to explore the area and tour the vineyards. Really great kitchen with stunning view from the breakfast bar with everything you need (including champagne glasses and wine bucket!). Highly recommend a stay in this beautiful cottage.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Chambourcin Cottage! Bruce and Kim have created an elegant yet relaxing environment from which to enjoy all Te Awanga and the wider central Hawkes Bay have to offer. Being recently developed, the cottage is well appointed with wifi, Netflix, Sonos systems etc., providing a great balance between ‘getting-away-from-it-all’, but with the option of enjoying connectivity if so desired. The provision of bicycles allowed leisurely trips to the local vineyards, including Te Awanga Vineyard, Clearview and Beach House. The cottage was very comfortable and proved a real sanctuary within which to unwind and recharge. Bruce and Kim were wonderful, attentive hosts who added to our overall experience. We definitely recommend Chambourcin Cottage for those looking for well appointed and positioned Hawkes Bay accommodation.
