What we like about this property

We love that architect Vincent Yueh was able to conceive and create a contemporary residence in such individual context among the towering monoliths of Tokyo. It’s a modern homage to traditional Japanese “shop houses” with peaceful living spaces full of natural light, soothing neutral colors and materials that achieve a sense of harmony, symmetry and balance.

Description

Situated in a leafy hilltop neighborhood of central Tokyo, this striking residence resides among the massive scale of neighboring buildings in quiet harmony with it’s surroundings. Placed on a small lot, the house was designed to overcome the limitations of space with a smart and efficient use of vertical scale and interior layout that create bright open plan spaces that flow seemlessly into each other.

Built in 2009 by owner and award winning architect Vincent Yueh, the modern concrete contruction was inspired by and modeled after traditional Japanese  shop-houses and is a beautiful expression of clean minimalism without starkness. Large windows, neutral colors, and natural light expand and enhance the interior spaces while the warm wood paneling is used to counter balance the cool concrete. The airy open spaces were created to allow plenty of natural light and ventilation as well as privacy.

Considerably larger than many apartments in the city, the house  features four bedrooms including kids bunks, and two full baths and can accommodate up to seven guests. The large open plan kitchen, dining and living areas are bright and spacious making this a great  residence in the city.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

Wifi throughout, housekeeping, laundry facilities, parking.

AROUND

Located in the quiet and historic neighbourhood of Meguro Ebisu, the area is known for it’s beautiful green spaces in an otherwise congested city. The hilltop district is home to many of the best restaurants and shops and is just a couple of metro stops from the spectacles of Shibuya and Shinjuku.

The Mita Residence was a gorgeous find in a quiet part of Tokyo. Close enough to the buzz to enjoy as a tourist but far enough away for a relaxing getaway, the home was so beautiful, it was hard to leave. The architecture and decor is, like the picutres depict, inspiringly modern, clean and bright. The hosts were very kind, accomodating and communicative. I definitely recommend this home for a stay. Our friends who live in Tokyo were blown away with the amount of space and light which can be a rarity in this city.

We so enjoyed our stay at The Mita Residence. The location is excellent, within short walking distances to the train station and great dining and shopping. The Meguro Train Station near the house has a JR Yamamote Train Line stop,  which goes to all the major Tokyo districts like Shibuya and Ginza. The house has a modern,  clean, airy  design which we loved. Having two full bathrooms was a real luxury for a vacation rental in Tokyo. Our hosts were very helpful from the time we booked the house, our arrival in Tokyo and until our departure. We are looking forward to staying at Mita Residence again.

Mita Residence was the perfect place to stay for my family on our trip to Japan – everything was well organized and instructions were clear and the house very accessible. The neighborhood was sweet and convenient. Lilian was extremely accommodating with my questions. My family couldn’t have been happier! Thank you.

We miss our away house already! The home is lovely and continued to reveal new details and elements to us across the course of our stay. Our family of four enjoyed being “at home” in the terrific walking, running, shopping and exploring neighborhood. Easy access to trains made it a breeze to get around. Our hosts were very wonderful and helped us before and during our stay in many ways. We look forward to the next visit.

Thanks to everyone at Mita Residence for an experience we’re still talking about and will continue to treasure for years to come.

This house is in a great location very near both Meguro and Ebisu train stations with lovely boutiques and great eating nearby especially for interiors and arts. The house has a lot of space for Tokyo, we had two families of three and there was plenty of room for us all. The only thing I would have liked is blinds in the rooms to block out the street lights. But it was a very quiet and safe neighbourhood, thanks for the lovely stay Lillian.

What a great stay we had at Mita Residence with our two children (10 yo and 19 yo)! Beautifully elegant, efficiently set-up and conveniently situated, the house met our diverse needs with effortless style. Positioned between two stations and with many fascinating spots to explore nearby, we enjoyed every minute of our time there. Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku and the Shenkanzen were so easy to get to and we never got tired of the architecture and lovely interior spaces.

My family of 4 had a wonderful stay here. The trip to Tokyo was a rough one, having been delayed by an airline crash just minutes before our departure, but once we arrived at the house, it was all worth it. The house was beautiful and was located in a lovely district. A ten minute walk to the train station connected us to the rest of Tokyo.

We had a wonderful 4 night stay at this beautiful modern home. Located in a quiet neighbourhood just a short walk (or jog along the canal) to nearby shops and restaurants. Also just a couple metro stops from the spectacles of Shibuya and Shinjuku. It provided a perfect base to ease into our first visit to Tokyo. Thank you to the hosts for a wonderful stay!
