The Evergreen Beauty Of The Pacific Northwest's Cascades
Located just outside of Mt. Hood National Forest this vacation home rental in Oregon sits among the evergreen beauty of the Pacific Northwest's Cascade Range. Part of a rural residential community on a half acre lot, giving it an off-the-grid feel with all of the on-the-grid comforts. Built in the 1970s and clad in a dramatic black, the home's A-frame style has undergone a top-to-bottom renovation that lends it a more contemporary style while still remaining relaxed.
The interiors are illuminated with lots of natural light with a Scandinavian feel and some refining touches. The main living space includes a toasty wood stove and an adjacent breakfast area for four people, with a fully appointed kitchen. There is also a full bath on the ground floor.
Up the spiral stair are two bright and cheerful bedrooms, one double and one triple that's ideal to share with kids and also has a balcony with sliding doors that open onto peaceful ravine views below.
The back deck is the perfect place to read a book, have coffee or drinks, or enjoy dinner alfresco. There is a fire pit located off to the side of the deck that puts the finishing touches on the wilderness experience (provided that there is no burn ban in effect).
MT. HOOD
Just over an hour east of Portland and south of the Columbia River Gorge, Mount Hood is the highest peak in the state and offers up more than one million acres of national forest. Capped by glaciers and crisscrossed by a network of ski trails and hiking trails along the alpine lakes that feed into stunning waterfalls, the area is a pure nature lovers paradise.
The mountain was a historic playground as far back as the turn of the century and is also part of the famous Oregon Trail, with a portion of the Pacific Crest Trail passing through. The renowned Timberline Lodge was built in the 1930s and has been named a national landmark. It remains the mountain's main hub for the pistes and contains the magical mile chair lift.
It's a 20-minute drive to the ski areas from the cabin, but closer to home, the small Mt. Hood Village has a few nice dining options and is the stop for supplies.
