Getting away from it all should never mean leaving your standards behind. Only your stress. Welcome to Far Meadow in California.
As its name suggests, Far Meadow is off the beaten track – fourteen miles above Bass Lake in the Sierra National Forest.
Head down Old Yosemite Coach Road to this collection of chic cabins in Yosemite and discover a rustic modern experience. Located above a secluded meadow, each of the houses are very private and surrounded by native forests just a short drive away from the south entrance to Yosemite National Park. Gently harmonizing with their environment, the back to basics compound provides all of the fundamentals of country living with a touch of contemporary style and modern comforts.
Book one or book them all, depending on your needs. Individually they sleep between two and four people, but combined they offer accommodation for up to 15. If you need more space still, you can pitch a Teepee Tent for two. And if you think you’re really getting away from it all, don’t let the surroundings fool you. Far Meadow still offers all the creature comforts you’ll ever need, from full kitchens and bathrooms to WiFi.

Iconic, majestic and one of nature’s most dazzling wonders, Yosemite and the surrounding Sierra Nevada mountains with their towering Sequoias are some of the best that California has to offer.
Nearby Lewis Creek is a quieter and less crowded trail for a peaceful walk in the woods and is book-ended by both Corlieu Falls and the smaller Red Rock Falls, gorgeous cascades and creek side trails. Wawona Meadow Loop Trail is a lovely pastoral loop that great for just meandering through the wide valley floor.
Mariposa Grove is home to the biggest sequoia grove in Yosemite and to the 2700 year old “Grizzly Giant”. It’s pretty crowded in high season at the lower loop levels but Wawona Point and the Outer Loop Trail are higher up, less crowded and worth the climb.
In town, The Forks has been around for over 70 years and still has one of the best burgers we’ve ever had, with a cool casual diner vibe and outdoor patio with great views of Bass Lake. Sierra Sky Ranch is a historic, down home steakhouse with a proper saloon and Raley’s is like the great general stores of the past and is the best last stop for supplies on your way into the valley.
Be sure to hit the Bass Lake farmers market, a small and delicious event every Wednesday with local purveyors of excellent produce and treats at Pine’s Village.
It’s approximately a three and a half hour drive from Los Angeles and four and half from San Francisco.
