A Contemporary Oasis at Hacienda Sac Chich by Architect Salvador Reyes Rios
Designed by Yucatan architect Salvador Reyes Rios, this home uses the latest technologies and techniques to achieve results that are both historically authentic and original in vision. First place winner of the coveted Cemex Award for both residential and international architectural excellence, this stunning home makes an immediate visual and emotional impact.
The contemporary private oasis is set within Hacienda Sac Chich, a modern jewel designed to capture the beauty of the Yucatan light and sky. Nestled within the hacienda’s original 11-foot stone walls, Casa Sisal sits on the former two-acre henequén drying fields. The 2,000 sq. ft. residence is surrounded by serene lily-filled reflecting ponds, creating an intimate sense of peace and seclusion.
Built with hardwoods, limestone, and polished plaster using the ancient Mayan technique of chukum, Casa Sisal has 10-foot ceilings, with custom furnishings, dramatic lighting, and meticulous design details. It has two bedrooms—one with a king bed and the other with two queen beds—each with its own en-suite bathroom. The bedrooms are joined by an expansive open-plan living space with a sleek kitchen, a sunken lounge, and a dining area for six. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors open the home to its lush surroundings, blending indoor and outdoor living.
Step out from the living room onto a tranquil 30-foot lily pond patio, perfect for quiet mornings or evening reflection. On the opposite side lies a three-sided infinity pool with a palapa and sun loungers, overlooking a grand lawn lined with 18 royal palms. At night, the palms are beautifully illuminated, creating a magical atmosphere under the stars.
