What we like about this property

We love a cottage by the sea, and this cabin rental in Nova Scotia is located in a place of spectacular beauty and privacy. Charming and full of character, it’s a welcoming and cozy retreat for two within minutes of the famous Cabot Trail and all the natural beauty of Cape Breton Island.

Description

Perched on a cliff in complete seclusion overlooking the Gulf of St. Lawrence, this cottage rental in Nova Scotia is situated near the renowned Cabot Trail surrounded by over 150 acres of fields, forest and windswept highlands.

The coastal design mimics maritime architecture of the region with cedar-shingle construction, and a whitewashed horizontal-board interior. Designed and built by artists and native Canadians, the house is a labor of love that reflects their appreciation for the area, its culture, history and traditions. Charming and comfortable, the open-plan living space features beams and vaulting ceilings that lend it a bright and airy feel, with a fully equipped kitchen and dining area surrounded by windows for spectacular views. Finished with both rustic and contemporary furnishings and decor, the cottage is welcoming and homey, with one cozy bedroom for two.

Outside, the large deck is positioned perfectly for spotting lobster boats, eagles, moose, bobcats, and the whales which pass by most of the year, and from where you’ll catch dramatic sunsets and panoramic views. You can also fire up the grill for dining alfresco.

A world of natural beauty is at your doorstep, from the warm sands of Chimney Corner beach, to the world-renowned Margaree river (great for wild salmon and trout fishing), the Cabot Trail and the stunning National Park.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

Broadband internet access, stereo and books, local guide/maps, kitchen and bath amenities.

AROUND

Located at the eastern end of Nova Scotia, Cape Breton Island lies between the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Atlantic Ocean. The famous Cabot Trail roadway encircles the island, passing through rugged coastline and forests and along the edges of Cape Breton Highlands National Park, and takes you through spectacularly beautiful areas. Less than thirty minutes north of the cottage, the Park has an extensive network of hiking trails, including the Skyline Trail that overlooks the Gulf, as well as dramatic waterfalls, rivers and highlands. Both the fabulous beach and bluffs of Whale Cove and the beaches and lighthouses of Margaree Harbor are just a few minutes away, while the beach nearest the cottage is ideal for swimming in warm months. Head south on the dramatically beautiful Broad Cove Road on your way to the town of Inverness, with it’s great pubs, cafés and local music. Strike out for nearby Margaree, where there are some great craft shops and a famous eatery. With its mix of Celtic, Acadian and First Nations cultures, the island has a rich history and unique traditions with various music and cultural festivals throughout the year. A breeding ground for migratory whales, the area is also home to a diverse and abundant array of wildlife.

We were delighted with our stay at TumbleSea, which exceeded our expectations. The pictures do not do justice to the spectacular sunsets we enjoyed. This cottage is a tiny gem that really is perched high on the cliffs – suitable for one or two adults who are ready to get away from it all.

The thorough information Stewart sent after we booked and his enthusiastic introduction on our first evening provided an even better orientation to so much that the west coast of Cape Breton has to offer. The cottage was tidy and well-appointed, with everything we needed to prepare meals and live comfortably for our week-long stay. We particularly enjoyed the property’s floor-to-ceiling windows, vaulted ceilings, cross-breezes, and spacious deck.

We arrived with a list of sites we hoped to explore across Cape Breton. The cottage was so lovely, however, it was hard to tear ourselves away.

“TumbleSea” is a perfect name for this cottage. The crashing waves at the foot of the cliffs below provide an ever-changing soundtrack–even when the windows are closed if the wind is just right. The stunning location, tasteful and comfortable living spaces, and helpful customer service make this an easy property to review, and to recommend for others who want to experience the beauty of this pleasingly remote part of Nova Scotia.

We arrived on a brilliantly sunny day in mid August. A modest tree lined driveway to the cottage belies the panoramic beauty of this property. The grounds surrounding TumbleSea are intimately private. An impressive deck rewards us with 180 degrees of breathtaking views that follow us into a well appointed cottage with a floor plan and décor that clearly signify a profound devotion to artistry and comfort. The physical experience of TumbleSea and all it offers is intoxicating.THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!

After taking a lot of time and looking at several different places, I know I couldn’t have found a more ideal place.
From my first inquiry Stewart was prompt and helpful. The evening we arrived everything was just as he said. Stewart then came over to welcome us and spent time going over things about the cottage. Then, took extra time to give us local insight on where we might go and what we might want to do. All VERY helpful.

The cottage is very secluded but easy day trips to almost any place on Cape Breton. The best part of all our trips, was just meeting and talking with local people. All very friendly.

But….the FAVORITE part of our visit was time at the cottage just spent sitting, looking our over and listening to the ocean. Beautiful sunsets! During our time around Nova Scotia we saw a few of other properties I had seen to rent. None lived up to their descriptions as is not unusual.

However…. Stewart, does not OVER SELL his properties. He takes a lot of pride in his rentals and it shows. It is what he says it is ….and more.

    A wonderful week!

If you are looking for a peaceful retreat there are no other choices, this is the place. Cape Breton boasts stunning natural scenery, unspoiled by pretentious homes and touristy nonsense, and pockets of Gaelic and French culture along the way. During the summer months all the restaurants have excellent live Celtic Music and the seafood is of course excellent in the area, especially the snow crab. If you golf there are 3 excellent courses within 30 mins of the cottage and Cape Breton National Park is about 40 mins. away.

The cottage itself has every amenity you will need with an excellent kitchen for cooking. There is no television but who would want one frankly? The view is totally private and spectacular. I saw lobster boats in the mornings and a few bald eagles too!

The owner is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the area. He led me to two areas I would have not have explored otherwise. This is a special place where you can leave your hectic life behind and just enjoy the unspoiled beauty of Nova Scotia. The people are unusually kind and the cottage provided a superb home base. I would highly recommend a visit.

What a wonderfully amazing place to decompress from the daily grind. This is our fourth summer staying in Chimney Corner with Stewart and Bell. This is also our fourth different house and we feel like this is the best of all of his great options.

The interior, like all of their houses, have everything you need in a small, stylish and comfortable space. But what puts Tumble Sea over the top are the views. 180 degrees covering the full Chimney Corner Beach, Seawolf Island and much of the ocean. I can’t even begin to describe how what a spectacle we had watching a lightening storm roll on over the water one night or having bald eagles whisk over your head every morning while sitting on the deck.

Beyond the property itself, which is quiet and private, Chimney Corner is a great “place in the middle” to hit both the Highlands National Park and all of the goings on in Inverness.

We will be back for year 5, next summer!

My husband and I just left this lovely home…….it was very difficult! We had a full week to enjoy all that Cape Breton has to offer and this rental was in the perfect location to see everything. Although, it is difficult to leave because the view is stunning. We watched the sun set every night on the deck with a glass of wine. The home was spotless, with a well-equipped kitchen, modern bathroom, wonderful bed and high-quality bedding. Stewart was a great help in suggesting sights and directions. I would recommend this home without hesitation. I know that we will return.

This marks our second year of renting with Stewart and Bell. Tumble Sea is simply magical. Floating high in this magical cottage. The cottage is extremely clean and well appointed. Has everything you need and not cluttered with things you don’t. Views are stunning. We loved looking out over Sea Wolf Island and eagles passed by almost every day of our 2 week stay! We can’t wait to return. Stewart and Bell are very helpful in every way and have poured a lot of love into all their cottages.

Pictures will never do this place justice…Cape Breton is breath-taking and TumbleSea was the PERFECT place to stay while we explored the island. The attention to detail and the amenities in our cottage ensured our comfort, and our host, Stewart went above and beyond to make our stay truly memorable. We can’t wait to return for more hiking, beach sunsets, seafood, music, local crafts, and hospitality. We have traveled to many places around the world and this tops any that we have visited…both Cape Breton and our accommodations surpassed all of our expectations.
