What we like about this property

Sophisticated country living in a boutique hotel that feels more like a grand home. We love the traditional architecture of the historic farm and the distinctive, individual design of each room.

Stylish and historic, this large villa estate has been transformed into a polished and elegant version of it’s former self. Built in the late 1800’s this authentic farm villa was used for generations as an agricultural estate and it’s groves of mature olive and fruit trees remain. Located in the beautiful central mountain district of Portugal’s Serra do Acor nature preserve, the villa occupies an enviable spot in which to enjoy this protected area.

Divided into a total of eight rooms there are two junior suites with full baths and four rooms apart from the main house including one full apartment with a kitchen, all with stylish contemporary updates. Some boast bold romantic colors, others are more muted and fresh with polished wood and modern accents. Each room has its own personality and character with elegant and stylish decor and where no two are alike.

With the traditional whitewashed and red tile exteriors and meticulously nurtured gardens  and groves, this hotel looks as it must have a hundred years ago but with a fresh modern update. The pool and terrace are a great place to lounge and enjoy the spectacular views from the estate.

While you’re here, the on site restaurant serves up gourmet cuisine from locally sourced farms accompanied by some of the regions best wines. The selections are very refined for such a rustic area and are enjoyed all the more when paired with the famous open air parties known as arraiais with traditional dance and music. Or you can hang out in the lounge for a peaceful spot to enjoy a drink in front of the fireplace.

This historic hotel provides a dose of the good life, and a tasteful retreat in the countryside from which to enjoy the simple pleasures of food, leisure and nature.

Wifi throughout, buffet breakfast served (except in apartments). Housekeeping and laundry services available.

The historic city of Piodao is nearby with its famous stone houses forming a picturesque jumble on the hillside. The extensive natural preserve of the Serra do Acor mountains and woods are sprinkled with waterfall-fed pools, rivers good for swimming and canoeing, and trails suited to bikers and hikers of all skill levels.

Our stay was wonderful and we only wished we could have lingered another day or two to fully submerge into this beautiful area and property. Dinner was perfect and breakfast under the orange trees was a dream. This property is clearly very well cared for and Jack and Ana deserve kudos for the serene and welcoming atmosphere they have created. Many thanks!

    “Splendid, cosy & stylish”

We had a fantastic and amazing one week stay at Palmeira Historico. Such a warm welcome by Jack and his wife Ana who are practically running this place by their own. Very friendly yet not overwelming hosts. Excellent service by Jack himself who finally realised his dream by renovating and opening this lovely hotel 3 years ago. The Panorama suite was very spacious, offered a lot of daylight, good facilities and one big bed! Ana cooks every evening a surprise diner, much appreciated because the closest restaurant is at 30′ drive. Choose this place it you like to spent a peaceful holiday in unspoiled nature where you can do lots of walking and nature discoveries in the area. Nice unheated pool, well maintained garden with comfortable furniture. Very private and pittoresque.

We spent the five first days of our “lua de mel” at Palmeira Historico and enjoyed every minute of it for a large number of reasons: the hospitality and friendly service provided by Jack and his family, the truly fantastic (spacy, clean, beautiful) suite we booked, the tasty and plentyful breakfasts and refined diners, the diversified, excellent and affordable wines and the wonderful domain and views.
We were lucky to enjoy four lovely sunny days and only one rainy one and Jack was always very helpful with showing us around and suggesting trips in the neighbourhood. Especially recommendable are Serra da Estrela (with the uniquely shaped glaciar valley) and the mountain village of Piodao (though not for the faint-hearted).

We just returned from a four nights’ stay in Palmeira Historico and enjoyed every minute. The hotel is beautifully situated overlooking a neighbouring village and valley. The room was spacious as was the bathroom. Diner was served in a beautiful dining room where a fire was burning in the fireplace because evenings can be chilly in March. Diner itself was a three course menu and was perfectly prepared. At night no sound could be heard.
From the hotel Coimbra is an hour driving, but close by short and long walks can be made through the vallies and hills and small schist villiages. We did the round trip (4 hours) starting in Bemfeita. Also trips by car in the area are very pleasant because of the beautiful scenery.
We thank Jack and Ana for our fantastic stay

Palmeira Historico is an oasis in the heart of Portugal. Ana and Jack are great hosts and they really made me feel at home. The rooms are luxurious, clean and comfortable. Offers a pool in a beautiful garden with many seats where you can relax and enjoy the view. I stayed at Palmeira Historico for a week and still felt like it was too short. The restaurant offered different menus every night and the food and wine were delicious! Very good value for money. Highly recommend staying at Palmeira Historico!

A wonderful place on all counts. The room was extremely spacious and classy, the food was amazing as were the outside areas and the location. Everything is done to a high standard and carefully thought through even the pool honesty box for drinks. The owners were helpful and kind. It was total value for money. What more could anyone want !
