What we like about this property

An astonishing landscape provides the backdrop for this bold and strikingly designed hotel. An imposing architectural achievement, we love the fascinating juxtaposition of cool Scandinavian style and bold environmental design. Come see what chic modern luxury looks like at the ends of the earth!

Set against a backdrop of majestic mountainous lava fields and natural geothermal hot springs in a stunning primeval landscape, this unique award winning hotel is the collaborative creation of Los Angeles based designers and architects and native Icelanders.

A former inn for local plant workers, the abandoned buildings have been repurposed and completely transformed from their humble beginnings into an inspired and luxuriously modern hotel. Employing innovative and recycled materials and sustainable environmentally responsible practices, this chic installation was inspired by the raw beauty and unique features of the land. Jutting out from the base of the mountain atop a series of giant angled pillars, the design was positioned specifically to capture and showcase the Aurora Borealis. A stylish synthesis of contemporary Scandinavian minimalism and warm natural materials, it’s both a statement in design and how we live in the natural world.

With a total of forty five rooms, each is a slight variation in back to basics modernism earthy ambience and understated sophistication. Expansive and spacious, most have sweeping views, floor to ceiling windows and charming photographic murals of Icelandic ponies.

The restaurant serves farm-fresh locally sourced cuisine while the Northern Lights Bar and lounge will treat you to panoramic views and chic spot to enjoy the company of friends.

The natural geothermal hot springs provide the waters for the lap pool length hot tub with a lava rock sauna to warm your bones. An unforgettable experience with round the clock light in summer and spectacular northern lights in winter, this land of contrast allows you to enjoy the fire and ice that is Iceland.

A full service, fully staffed luxury hotel. Wifi throughout. Organic fair-trade linens and toiletries. Spa, fitness center, meeting/conference room.

Set among the lava fields at the base of Mount Hengill, you’re less than an hour’s drive from the cultural and urban center of the capital of Reykjavik. Part of the “Golden Circle” route, this is where Eurasia meets North America with some amazing natural destinations. Adjacent to Þingvellir National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Thingvallavatn (the largest lake in Iceland), Lake Pingvallavatn, is also just 10 minutes away. Hengill volcanic area, the river Öxará, Gullfoss waterfall, the hot springs area of Geysir, and the Kerid crater are all nearby and offer both winter and summer attractions.

The design and decoration style “hygge” of the hotel is very successful! The room and bathroom very nice, excellent bedding. The bar is absolutely amazing with an amazing view. Finally, for a restaurant “at the end of the world” the freshness and quality of the products was remarkable!

A beautiful design hotel, with beautiful architecture, planted in the middle of nowhere but not far from the golden circle. Very good bedding and neat decoration. Beautiful bathroom.
