An astonishing landscape provides the backdrop for this bold and strikingly designed hotel. An imposing architectural achievement, we love the fascinating juxtaposition of cool Scandinavian style and bold environmental design. Come see what chic modern luxury looks like at the ends of the earth!
Set against a backdrop of majestic mountainous lava fields and natural geothermal hot springs in a stunning primeval landscape, this unique award winning hotel is the collaborative creation of Los Angeles based designers and architects and native Icelanders.
A former inn for local plant workers, the abandoned buildings have been repurposed and completely transformed from their humble beginnings into an inspired and luxuriously modern hotel. Employing innovative and recycled materials and sustainable environmentally responsible practices, this chic installation was inspired by the raw beauty and unique features of the land. Jutting out from the base of the mountain atop a series of giant angled pillars, the design was positioned specifically to capture and showcase the Aurora Borealis. A stylish synthesis of contemporary Scandinavian minimalism and warm natural materials, it’s both a statement in design and how we live in the natural world.
With a total of forty five rooms, each is a slight variation in back to basics modernism earthy ambience and understated sophistication. Expansive and spacious, most have sweeping views, floor to ceiling windows and charming photographic murals of Icelandic ponies.
