Going Back in Time, in the French Quarter

“A two-bedroom, two-bathroom treasure awaits you in what I, a New Yorker, consider the most fabulous city in the United States, New Orleans,” says Jamie, owner of the Antoine Bordeaux House, a three-story, Creole-style townhouse in the Big Easy. “A lot of time went into the home’s period renovation. It’s a very special place for me."

We appreciate a discerning New Yorker, and also have a deep love for the decadence and architecture of New Orleans. Even so, we were bowled over by this stunning renovation that sits proudly on St. Philip between Chartres and Decatur, originally built in 1820 as a private mansion for Antoine Bordeaux, a French businessman.

A lush courtyard fountain invites you into the foyer. Up the circular staircase and through the door to your right, is your pied-a-terre. Original brick and stucco walls have been there since the 19th century, when this home section was the servant’s quarters. Each room has a vibrant color story, grounded by the antiquity of the furnishings.

Iron balconies are iconic to New Orleans, and yours is off the master bedroom. From here, or on your private roof deck, you can gaze over the old shingled caps of the French Quarter and listen to the distant music from the Mississippi’s old river barge.

Minutes from Preservation Jazz Hall and Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop (the oldest bar in the United States), this vacation rental in New Orleans puts you in the center of this truly fabulous city.

This two-bedroom, two-bath vacation rental in New Orleans is located on a property with three other units, and can accommodate up to six people. It is perfect for families who want to be in the center of the history, food, music, and architecture of the French Quarter and the Garden District.

    THE BIG EASY

You’ll be right in the center of the birthplace of jazz, where Buddy Bolden and Louis Armstrong introduced a new genre to the world. The music is still the heartbeat of the city, and you’ll be right in the middle of the spectacle, from the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Mardi Gras, French Quarter Fest and all of the little bistros and pubs in between, where music, and sometimes brass band parades, pour out onto the streets.

Gastronomy in New Orleans is an adventure in itself, with a broad range of Creole tradition and modern interpretation. From the 2016 James Beard Best New Restaurant in America, Shaya, to fried chicken at Willie Mae's Scotch House, your palate will be challenged and delighted everywhere you turn. The owner also recommends Mr. B's Bistro Sunday Jazz Brunch with BBQ shrimp, and the muffuletta from Central Grocery.

    LOCATION

New Orleans, Louisiana. Nearest Airport: Louis Armstrong International Airport (16 miles)

BEST TIME TO VISIT: New Orleans is one of those bucket list cities but the best weather is typically from February through May and during the Fall. And of course, for the adventurous Mardi Gras is a must and one of the world’s premier Jazz Fests happen every April.
