Immersed within the beautiful and protected La Garrotxa region of Catalonia, the area is part of an ancient volcanic formation that features stunning natural beauty for hiking, biking and exploring as well as natural pools for swimming. You can walk into the charming local town of Tortella in ten minutes for a taste of village life and the wood and boxwood crafts the area is known for.
The area is also home to the authentic and picturesque medieval towns of Besalu, Figueres (home of surrealist painter Salvador Dali), Santa Pau, Castellfollit de la Roca, Olot and Alta, all in less than a half hour drive as well as world-class skiing in the nearby Pyrenees.
Dating back over two thousand years, The Roman Road route is a fascinating drive. Historic Girona sits along the River Onyar and features beautiful medieval architecture and the walled Old Quarter (Barri Vell) with Roman remains of the Força Vella fortress.
