Backing up to the tiny village of Llafrui just inland from the Costa Brava, this vacation home for rent in Catalonia occupies a lush green plot of farmland adjacent to the medieval church tower.
Created by a couple whose love of travel and local culture is informed by Catalonian traditions, the newly built home is an idyllic and polished recreation of the typical stone farmhouses of the region.
The simple barn style structure is washed in earth tones to complement the rural surroundings and opens into a spacious and airy great room lined with windows, with a facade that opens out entirely to a covered terrace and outdoor lounge.
The all-in-one space features high vaulted ceilings, living and dining areas, and a professional-grade kitchen.
Down the hall are two en suite bedrooms and a single room, each with direct access to the gardens, while upstairs is the en suite master tucked into the timbered eaves with a workspace and a free-standing bathtub.
The gardens are surrounded in green pasture occupied by some very mellow neighboring cows, and landscaped Tuscan-style, with wild aromatic plants around the pool.
Accessed down a dirt road, the property is very private but just a short stroll into the village.
COSTA BRAVA’S VILLAGES
The small medieval village of Llofriu is an idyllic place centered around the 17th-century church and bell tower with less than 50 inhabitants in the old town. It is a fairytale town where life moves at a slow pace with just one restaurant and small shops surrounded by meandering farmland.
The quiet, picturesque roadways lead out into the Baix Empordá and the most beautiful coves and beaches of the Costa Brava including Cala de Aiguablava, Far de Sant Sebastián, Llafranc village, and Calella de Palafrugell.
Settled around the tiny rocky bays, the former fishing villages give you a glimpse of the sleepy waterfront culture without the glitz of neighboring resorts. There are also many summer festivals to check out with their Gegants and popular dances as well as the musical festivals of Perellada and Cap Roig, and the colorful fireworks in the town of La Bisbal.
Bordered to the north by the beautiful and protected Garrotxa region, and to the south by the Gavarres National Park, you’re surrounded by some of Catalonia’s most breathtaking natural and coastal beauty. Girona is under an hour’s drive north.
