"Go with the flow, knowing when to go against it" is the design philosophy of Dutch architect Mathieu Bruls, whose buildings sometimes appear to be more like art installations within nature.
Atop the chalky limestone caves that live underneath the nine hectares on the Sint Pietersberg is one of his most creative endeavors: a concrete block overgrown with ivy, with a sweeping view over Maastricht. We are in love with the pill-shaped front door.
The raw exterior contrasts beautifully with the warm interior, which was custom-built and has a full pinewood finish, flaunted marvelously in the sparse living area that lets one full wall be a window to the verdant, vegetative landscape.
Located on the eastern flank of the Sint Pietersberg, nestled between a beautiful nature reserve, vineyards and 15 minutes walking distance to the center of the city, this retreat is truly like no other and perfect for one or two design-loving couples.
This vacation rental in the Netherlands comprises 38m2 across two floors. On the basement level is a king-size bed and on the ground floor is the living area and kitchen. This home sleeps up to two people, possibly four if you use the sofa bed in the living room.

Maastricht is one of the oldest towns in the Netherlands, making it historically interesting, with attractions that include remnants of medieval city walls, an early 18th-century fortress, and a network of underground tunnels that run for several miles under the city's fortifications. Other sights worth visiting include the Romanesque Basilica of Saint Servatius, and the old masters and modern art at the Bonnefantenmuseum in the Céramique district. And don't forget a cruise down the river Meuse.
