We love the elegant and timeless beauty of this stately masseria. An inspired and respectful labor of love, the restoration process has preserved every graceful feature while infusing it with a few spirited elements of modernism and leaving it’s soul and enduring beauty undisturbed.
Located along the celebrated Appian Way on over fifteen acres of beautifully cultivated farm land, this historic masseria estate is set among a sea of olive groves and aromatic gardens in the southern region of Puglia.
Dating back over five hundred years, the entire property had been abandoned for over fifty years and was a stunning but challenging candidate for restoration. Discovered by a native of Puglia who returned to her home after decades away, the attraction was instant and the owners enlisted the talents of local architect, Mino D’Astore and local craftsmen to carefully and authentically rehabilitate the structures and grounds.
The oldest sections of the villa date to the 16th century while the graceful neo-classic and Moorish design elements and piano nobile (owners floor) were added in the early 19th century. The grand arched entry leads to the great room with soaring cupolas and beautiful stone construction throughout. The room is divided to include a fireside sitting area and a fully equipped kitchen and dining hall that seats fourteen and a grand terrace overlooking the estate.
All of the historical integrity has been preserved with modern design elements and amenities that skillfully integrate into the antiquity of the home. From the colorful floor tiles and frescoes to the locally sourced antiques, old and new are perfectly calibrated. There are a total of six bedrooms; four in the main villa and two in the courtyard building that can accommodate up to twelve guests.
The grounds are designed for seclusion and escape with a half acre interior courtyard featuring a massive pool, outdoor dining and living areas, an abundant vegetable garden, and a walled ‘aranceto’ (citrus grove) with Roman columns.
A remarkable find, this property is a stunning example of elegant history re-imagined for today.
Optional private chef, cooking lessons, tour guide, driver and Italian lessons available. Wifi throughout, media room with TV and DVD player, stereo system and iPod audio dock. Daily housekeeping with laundry facilities. Parking.
