Giuseppe Guin was so enchanted with Lake Como that he made a home here and etched several of his novels within the world around him. His private corner is a late 19th-century stone quarry cottage, located in a 3,000 sqm of wooded park with laurel, olive, magnolia and fruit trees.

Arriving to this charming escape by boat is a lovely treat that makes you feel as though you simply happened upon it. Climb onto the Faggeto Lario shore and make your way to this private wonderland, carved of quarry rocks that are the same type used in the local villas and churches of the famous region.

Antiques sprinkle the living room, and the old kitchen features a sink carved into the granite, cut between the square stones of the quarry. There is a well-stocked library – handsomely built from chestnut – that looks out onto the lake with a plush sofa made for sinking into with a page turner.

Description

This unique vacation rental in Lake Como has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, accommodating up to five people. The bedroom “Bilancia” (Scales) has beautiful lake views. The room “Lanterna” (Lantern) looks out into the laurel forest and its natural stone-carved amphitheatre.

The home’s wooden doors feature old bolts rescued from other village homes and hand-forged old iron lanterns filter the light throughout. Head towards the lake, and you’ll find a grassy beach.

Amenities include a TV, air conditioning and heating and Internet.

Parking is provided in Faggeto Lario. On the check-in/check-out day, transfer from Faggeto Lario moorage is included (2-5 min by boat).

Dotted with charming villages and spectacular villas along both legs of the lake, the eponymous town of Como is at the southern most tip of the western branch. The busy waterfront city has a long history and orbits around the “centro storico” old town, with picturesque piazzas and historic duomos, cafes and a more lively urban feel.

A great launching spot for exploring the region, the ferries are the best way to take in the many lake vistas and visit the famed towns of Bellagio, Tremezzo, and Varenna.
