    Bold Colors and Scents

A beautiful garden can complete a home and this historic villa for rent in Spello was designed around the colors, scents and culture of the Umbrian countryside. We love the use of bold colors and natural materials that manage to be contemporary while highlighting the ancient beauty of the Italian landscape. You can almost smell the rosemary, sage, thyme and lavender from here.

    Bold Colors and Scents

A beautiful garden can complete a home, and this historic villa for rent in Spello was designed around the colors, scents and culture of the Umbrian countryside.

We love the use of bold colors and natural materials that manage to be contemporary while highlighting the ancient beauty of the Italian landscape. You can almost smell the rosemary, sage, thyme and lavender from here.

Set within narrow cobbled streets and nestled against the ancient town walls of the hill town of Spello, this historic stone villa for rent delivers on charm and style with magnificent west-facing views of the Chiona valley and countryside. Centrally located within the town, you'll be within walking distance of the historic medieval beauty and culture of the village while ensconced within an idyllic and peaceful setting, with the heart of rural Umbria at your doorstep.

Restored and redesigned by owner and Spello resident Andrea Falkner, the house is one of three properties she has created as "a home away from home." Built from locally quarried pink-tinted Subasio stone, the ancient arches and stone work provide a palpable sense of history and are paired with fresh contemporary style.

The atmosphere encourages complete relaxation and is decorated with a mix of simple contemporary pieces, antiques and colorful pieces sourced from Falkner's world travels. The main living area is light and open and laid out to be practical and unfussy with comfortable and cheerful living spaces and chic modern style. The floors are a soft grey resin and the interiors feature bold color blocking and contrasting textures.

On the right, the kitchen and dining area seats up to eight, with a comfy lounge area. Situated on the first floor, the en-suite master bedroom features wonderful garden and countryside views, with saturated reds of Morocco, while the garden level blue bedroom is in the spirit of the Aeolian islands with rich textiles, paired with cool white walls, deep blue hues and an old cotto floor.

Down the broad stone staircase is the yellow room furnished and decorated with items found in Laos, Cambodia and Burma with private garden access.

The lush and private gardens were designed and planted to allow plenty of space for lounging on comfy day beds piled high with soft pillows or cooling off in the plunge pool with stunning views of the Umbrian hills.

    ADDITIONAL FEATURES

    AROUND

Known as the "green heart of Italy", this region of Umbria is one of the most picturesque holiday destinations with pristine largely rural landscapes, rolling wooded hills, mountains and valleys and of course splendid art and architecture.

Situated a two-hour drive from Rome and just a few miles from Assisi, the enchanting hillside town of Spello is a quieter and less traveled medieval town at the base of Mount Subasio. Standing on the west side of town are the magnificent 18th century era Porta Venere gates flanked by two 12-sided towers and fortress walls.

Known for its excellent Umbrian cuisine, fine wines and beautiful antiquity, Spello is the ideal base from which to explore Umbria. You are within easy reach of the famous neighboring hill towns of Orvieto (with its legendary cathedral), Todi, Città di Castello, Gubbio, Perugia, Spoleto and the highly praised wine-producing region of Montefalco.

    LOCATION

Spello, Italy. Nearest Airport: Perugia “San Francesco d’Assisi” Airport (23km)

BEST TIME TO VISIT: Spring and Autumn are the most beautiful time to visit. Summers are nice, but the area is more crowded with tourists.
