We love the North African and rustic Sicilian characteristics of this sensitively restored estate and the mix of textures, treasures and classic influences. Rich in history, it’s one of the best sites on the island and a private oasis of traditional style. Wth its many outdoor lounging spaces, it’s like extreme glamping.
Located along the southern tip of Pantelleria above the Bay of Nica, this nearly 30-acre estate is one of the largest on the island and sits atop a hill overlooking the Mediterranean and North Africa in the distance.
A chic oasis of traditional Pantescan and classic Sicilian design, the location of the island has influenced the unique architectural style and building techniques. Known as Dammusi, the structure’s authentic and rustic architectural features include thick stone walls, vaulted interiors and graceful arches that are unique to the island.
Comprised of a main house and three independent guest houses, the property is expansive and private and has been subtly restored with natural and locally sourced materials and reclaimed items. The main house can accommodate up to five guests and features an en-suite master bedroom and two additional bedrooms that are perfect for young guests or kids.
The three detached en-suite guest houses can sleep two guests each and have private entrances and gardens with a kitchenette and small pool in one.
Decorated with a hand picked collection of treasures, Sicilian antiques and North African decor, the warm welcoming interiors allows the history of the home to come alive. There are numerous outdoor dining and lounge areas that give it a great glamping feel. There’s also a beach-style pool creating a spacious and private hideaway to enjoy together.
Fully staffed five star hotel and concierge services with daily house keeping, gardening and pool cleaning, change of linens once a week, wifi in every room, satellite cable TV, AC in every room. Courtesy pick up from and to the airport, laundry facilities. Continental breakfast included.
As one of the southernmost spots in Europe, Pantelleria is just thirty miles from Africa in the strait between Sicily and Tunisia and is just 32 miles around. Known for its dramatic coastlines with pristine waters, caves and sheltered coves, the island’s remote wild beauty is the draw. Inhabited since pre-historic times by Moors and various tribes, you’ll notice the mysterious sesi tomb mounds left by previous island tribes and the many clusters of Moorish stone structures known as Dammusi. Much of the main port and town was sadly destroyed during WW2 with the exception of Barbacane castle with later construction including traditional Sicilian and Greek style influences. Head inland to check out the thermal Lago di Venere and the summit of Montagna Grande, the highest point on the island where on clear days you’ll see the African coast.
