For a serene and beautiful vacation, Casa Greta gives you the charm of the Tuscan hills in a luxurious country home. We love the Olive Groves, the breathtaking views of the valley up to the sea, and the Tuscan hills and sun that surround this picturesque country home and promises to give you an unforgetable and relaxing stay.

This recently renovated 210 m², lone-standing country house is in a wonderful location in the hills of Camaiore, province of Lucca and only a few minutes drive from the splendid beaches of Versilia. Likewise, it has a spectacular view of the valley up to the sea.

The owners Astrid and Peter Gufler personally welcome and introduce the guests on Saturday and are there for all the questions and problems one could have during the week.

On the ground floor, you will find the living room with an open fireplace, 46′ flat TV with SAT, DVD with wireless DSL connection, iPod dock, a professionally equipped kitchen with a fireplace, a covered pergola for eating outside, and a wood and gas grill system 5 m from the house. The garden is enclosed. On the first floor there is a bedroom with a double bed and bathroom with a lone-standing bathtub and shower. On the lower floor, there are two bedrooms with double beds and two bathrooms, one with a shower and the other with a whirlpool bathtub and shower. One of the bedrooms have access to the garden and pool area. The pool running over to the horizon has a salt filter system and a whirlpool.

Mixed merchandise stores and pizzerias are 2.5 km from the house.

AROUND

Italy is a country known and cherished for its passionate people, natural beauty, cuisine, and beautiful culture. The Villa is located on a hillside above Camaiore, in the Province of Lucca and is a perfect destination to travel to and from nearby cities and beaches. It is a charming town with plenty of services and activities, markets and restaurants. The location combines the beauty of Tuscany, the dramatic scenery, the medieval towns and villages and their cultural treasures, with the added advantage of a mild climate due to the proximity of the Mediterranean Sea.

Explore the chic beaches of Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi, the lively town of Pietrasanta, home of many artists and stone sculptors, the marble quarries of Carrara, Pisa and the walled city of Lucca, all within a 20 to 40 minute drive. To the north-east is the mountainous area of the Garfagnana, with its ancient stone villages, waterfalls and hiking paths with breathtaking views. Visit Florence, San Gimignano, Siena, the Chianti-region, the Maremma, the Cinque Terre and Portofino, all one to two hours away.

It is hard to put into words this magical place, go and visit and you will understand.

From the photos the Villa promised a lot but, it delivered so much more. It is hard to put into words how special this place is. We took time to explore the local area including Lucca and Florence also a full day trip to Portofino and the Cinque Terre. The best part though was leaving plenty of time to just enjoy the villa, the pool, the kitchen, the lounge area, the garden the peace and quite, the bedrooms especially the master bedroom were amazing. This villa felt like a home. Peter was a wonderful host, thank you. We will be back :)

    A wonderful property – blissful!

We had a really wonderful stay. The house really is gorgeous and had everything we could have wanted.

Peter was so kind and very helpful – even booking restaurants for me.

    Idyllic Holiday in Tuscany.

A beautiful property with ample space and everything you could possibly need. Stunning views of the landscape, secluded terraces and a gorgeous swimming pool.

Peter was very happy to help with any questions and requests.

The restaurant in the local village was a delight and great value for money compared to Venice and Florence. Romena, the gourmet chef, cooked a delicious 4 course meal for us and was happy to accommodate and adjust the menu for our vegetarian son.

The villa is slightly of the beaten track but well worth the journey. We were not disappointed!

We are definitely thinking of coming back at some point.

    Spectacular Week Near Viareggio…

Without a doubt the best vacation week of our fifty plus years! And though aged just 17-23, our four children who joined us wholeheartedly agreed. What an amazing villa Peter Gufler provides in the hills above Camaiore with a spectacular westward view to Viagreggio and the Sea. This is a truly beautiful property, and though it has an old world feel it has every modern amenity to make your stay both luxurious and relaxing. The pool, the gardens, the privacy, the large beautiful rooms, every amenity — all make this a great value and worth every penny. Peter is the perfect owner as well: responsive, thoughtful and truly helpful in making our stay a memorable one. We loved the location, slightly off the tourist-beaten path, yes, but well worth it. A 7 minute drive down the hill to Camaiore (a quaint and quiet town with very friendly and accommodating merchants), and 40 minutes or so to Pisa and Lucca. This was perfectly located for us, and a short drive up to the Carrera marble quarries and not much more than an hour to the Cinque Terre trains at La Spezia. A number of excellent wine tours nearby as well. Visiting in mid-June we had beautiful weather every single day — but even if it rained we would hardly have noticed. A great day trip down the coast to Bolgheri and then inland back through Volterra is highly recommended. We utilized a local chef, Romena, twice — for one gourmet dinner on our first night and a pizza dinner on our last night, both truly sublime. We ate dinner on the beautiful deck as the sun set on the Sea beyond Viareggio. Thank you to Peter for making this a stay my family will never forget.

    Incredible home and hosts!

We had a truly fantastic stay at Casa Greta – the home is gorgeous, the grounds perfectly maintained and so lovely, and Peter and Astrid we perfectly gracious hosts.

We would absolutely come back (and are trying to figure out a time to do so!).

The kitchen is perfectly appointed for gourmet food prep, and the rest of the home is elegant, but relaxed and comfortable at the same time – perfect for our family (or for anyone!).

Once again I awoke to a sweet birdsong and light spilling through the windows of Casa Greta. This place is aglow with light and love. All week we have whisked off to the most lovely places…Lucca, San Gim, Volterra…medieval villages , walled cities, Montecatini Terme Alto perched high atop a hill and of course… the Renaissance Treasures of Firenze. We are here with much beloved friends and my heart has been warmed by the food and wine and laughter we have shared. But today, while everyone else headed to the sea I decided to stay here and simply bask in the glow of Casa Greta.

The Villa is nestled into the hillside of Pieve di Camaiore in the province of Lucca in Eastern Tuscany. After a white knuckled drive up the ridge through small, winding roads ancient gates open to reveal a golden Casa Greta. The Villa stands gracefully amidst beds of lavender and rosemary. The hills above and below yield fig trees and olive groves. The entire Tuscan countryside is perfumed with the scent of wild roses, lavender and rosemary and here at Casa Greta it is rich enough to make you swoon. Terracotta urns overflow with flowers and herbs.

Inside the restored medieval doors butter hued walls rise up from warm terracotta floors. Wood beams gleam in the ceiling and french doors open to patios and verandas that gaze over the hilltops. The view from the patio behind the kitchen has long arms reaching all the way to the sea. Beneath this a still pool welcomes friends to stop and savor life awhile.

The Villa is the creation of our hosts, Peter and Astrid Gufler- an architect and a sculptor. They call eachother shaktsi- which in their native tongue means my treasure. Unbeknownst to me at the time I leased their home, they are both longtime Yoga practitioners. Their are both celebrated artists in their own right and their masterpiece may well be the work of art they have sculpted out of this golden hilltop.

Pictures could never capture the sweetness of this place but it is my great pleasure to share them and to extend a deep and heartfelt recommendation to anyone who might want to visit Toscana at its most beautiful

When we saw the pictures of the house, we thought ” too good to be true”. But it was true!
The house and grounds are every bit as beautiful as the pictures advertise, maybe even more so. The house well stocked and clean. Beautifully decorated. Peter was quick to reply if we had questions or concerns, during our week as well as the year we were planning our stay.
Train stations and supermarket approx. 15 to 20 min drive. Road to villa narrow, but it adds to the charm
We can not say enough good things about our week.

  • Rolf, July 30, 2012

Our family of 2 adults and 3 children rented this house for 3 weeks in July 2012. We found it very nice and well equipped. Clean. Beautiful house, nice pool, safe garden and excellent location and view. The children loved it (and so did the adults).
The owners are very nice and helpful in recommending sights, restaurants etc.
The drive up to the house is a bit steep and narrow, but it is definately worth it once you arrive and have to view an the chilling breeze.
Very good location for day trips to various sights in Toscana as well as north to Cinque Terre and Portofino.
We would clearly recommend this house.
