Glamour, Heritage, and Romance

Mansion Sophia, sister property to Mansion Kyani, lives in the village Megalochori, famous for its volcanic microclimate and prosperous, turn-of-the-century wine trade years. The village is still renowned for its viticulture.

Mansion Sophia belonged to one of the town’s wealthiest merchant families, and was named after her last owner, who carefully sustained the villa and all of the character of its 100-year heritage. The current owners also did meticulous restoration work but upgraded it to include a swimming pool, air conditioning, wireless Internet and TV.

We adore this color palette, with its electric pink flowers, whitewashed walls, and aqua pool. No wonder Mansion Sophia and Kyani have been featured in Conde Nast Traveller and Harper’s Bazaar. This villa in Santorini makes the perfect honeymoon backdrop, or a destination for guests who desire absolute privacy and a stylish and romantic environment.

Description

With two bedrooms and one bathroom, this villa in Santorini can comfortably accommodate up to four guests. Each room overlooks the spacious courtyard with its Moroccan pool and garden, while the kitchen leads to a small garden with views of the village, colorful plants and a dining area.

From the courtyard, enter the double doors and into a spacious living and dining area with vaulted ceilings and original polished wooden floors. Splitting from the living room, are two opposite bedrooms with one bathroom to share between them. The kitchen has a beautiful stone arch, which now serves as a washing up and preparation area.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

Feng Shui Certification, Air Conditioning in Both Bedrooms, Free Internet Access, Satellite Flat-Screen TV & Media Player, Sonos Audio System, and a Complimentary Mobile Phone. Smeg Fridge and Oven.

AROUND

The village of Megalochori shows you the quieter side of Santorini and is known for its car-free cobblestone streets, its Venetian bell towers and charming square filled with fantastic restaurants.

Megalochori’s past was ruled by the merchants and feudal landlords that exported the unique Vinsanto wine, famed in the region. The demand was strong with Odessa in Russia, and the remnants of this time are evident in the many Russian church bells, still tolling in the village today. The tradition with wine continues today – see if you can detect the notes of smoke and minerals from the volcanic soil.

Megalochori has also a dramatic, unspoiled caldera (a basin linked to the myth of Atlantis). There are no buildings here, and it’s perfect for hiking with magnificent vistas of the famous volcano and sunset.

Outside the village, some of Santorini’s best beaches are only minutes’ drive away, and 6 km away is the island’s capital of Fira, with its old port Ormos and celebrated nightlife culture.

    Excellent accommodation in beautiful village

We would definitely recommend Mansion Sophia highly. Very well appointed and equipped accommodation. Megalochori is a beautifully restored village and virtually pedestrianised apart from the occasional local in a small car or moped, with little or no traffic past the villa. It’s a short walk to the square with around 8 restaurants within 10 minutes walk and a wonderful bakery (good for lunchtime sandwiches) around 10 minutes walk – this also sells milk water etc and is open long hours. The caldera is in fact only a short walk from the villa so instead of the crowded streets of Oia, far better to take in the sunset here where there were very people and probably a better view.
The transfers and hire car were very well organised. Jackie the concierge greeted us in the village on arrival from the airport, booked our outbound taxi and met us on departure. There is a mobile phone to contact Jackie with any issues which was reassuring.
We would recommend a visit to Symposion a music and art centre which is just a few steps away from the villa – we attended a really interesting evening concert of original Greek music using traditional instruments.
Overall a very enjoyable stay – Santorini is well worth a visit as it is visually stunning and extremely interesting. There must be few places in the world where one can experience a volcano so closely.

    Perfect private getaway

We loved everything about this experience! If you want a feel for a traditional Greek village, this is the place! The living area was spacious and clean. The back yard was completely private and included a swimming pool. The property was walking distance to several restaurants. The concierge, Jackie, was very friendly and helpful. This reservation included transportation from the airport to the property, as well as to our next destination. The driver offered a lot of advice about the best places to visit and eat. He also pointed out all the places of interest during our drives. While staying at the property, we were provided use of a small rental car which gave us the freedom to explore the island. We would recommend this property to anyone seeking a unique and traditional Greek experience.

    Exceptional!

Mansion Sophia is a beautiful and quiet oasis close enough to Oia and Fira but in the nice quiet little town of Megalachori close to the best wineries and beaches and within walking distance of wonderful wineries and restaurants. The accommodation itself is wonderful with a lot of character, a great rooftop for taking in sunrise and sunsets and a wonderful pool and lounging area. Mansion Sophia was immaculately clean and the staff was very helpful with arranging a catamaran tour (highly recommend) and all other matters. We hope to visit again one day!

Beautiful villa in stunning, private setting

After spending two days in lovely but very busy Oia, this home was a beautiful change of pace. The pool and flower strewn patio were lovely and the village of Megalochori was charming and quiet. Jackie provided us with everything we needed and offered recommendations for activities to enjoy. The rental car allowed us to explore island highlights such as beaches (Red Beach) and Pyrgos (the view from Franco’s cafe after 6 pm is breathtaking and allows a bird’s eye view of the island). Our favorite restaurant of our stay on Santorini was Metaxi Mas—be sure to make a reservation and ask to be seated on the lower outdoor patio for a beautiful sunset view of the interior part of the the island that some may miss!

I don’t think words can describe how beautiful romantic and absolutely gorgeous “Mansion Sophia” is!

The small walk from town center along the thin roads to Sophia was so exciting but when you turn the keys and walk up the stairs to Sophia the words WOW Stunning and OMG come to mind. The lush gardens are undescribable. Gorgeous plants flowers and foliage everywhere surrounding a beautiful pool. This was my favorite place in Sophia and because it is set high in the village and has large beautiful while walls and lush foliage everywhere the privacy was outstanding, like a small piece of Heaven. The house was unreal, a full traditional Greek village mountain home. The doorway into the kitchen you had to actually duck to get into, just added to its quaintness . The bedrooms were beautiful and the beds great.

This was the most romantic place my wife and I have ever been.

The town of Megalochori is so traditional, quaint and so full of character and charm. The people of the village were so charming and friendly full of character. Sophia was only 200 yards away from 4 great restaurants shops and the church is gorgeous.

To top all of this off they provided us a car for our stay there and we were so central on Santorini that we could be anywhere on the Island in 20-30 minutes drive.

If you are thinking of staying at Sophia, grab it quickly as it is the most beautiful place my wife and I have ever stayed at in the world

Thank you Mansion Sophia for an unforgettable experience!!!

My daughters ( 15/16) and I cannot say enough about this wonderful place.

The charming two bedroom villa is located in the charming town of Megalochori

As you enter through the little black door off the quiet winding street, just off the town square, it actually took our breath away .

There was a hammock, pool, fountain, chaise lounges- the villa has fab original detail , high arched ceilings, shutters and exposed brick. There are super nice linens, two comfortable beds (double and king) a spacious living room and kitchenette- there is not only the private courtyard pool but a side garden for outside dining

I am so glad we did stay in this lovely town away from the madness of Fira ( only a 15 min drive)

The staff was super responsive before and during our stay

    You MUST stay here !

    Peaceful. Private. Perfect.

We had an amazing time at Mansion Sophia and cannot wait to come back and stay again. The little village of Megalochori was picture perfect and exactly what we were looking for in an off-the-beaten-path, authentic experience. There were several great restaurants just a stone’s throw from the house and there was a great bakery just a short and scenic walk through the old village. Every person we met was incredibly friendly and made us feel welcome immediately. The house itself was fantastic, it had the charm and history to lend to its authenticity, but was very comfortable with all the conveniences of modern amenities like a washing machine, microwave and espresso maker. Thank you!!

    This was a magical experience!

We could not have been happier with our stay at Mansion Sophia. From the greeter at the airport to the luggage handler, to the concierge and the maid, everyone was friendly and helpful. The property is absolutely beautiful. The large living room is bright and inviting and the bedrooms on either side are roomy and elegantly furnished. The beds are comfortable and a cozy comforter was just the ticket for the cool nights. Even plush robes and slippers are provided.
With the rental car that was included as part of our stay, we explored many of the villages of Santorini and enjoyed them all but were more convinced than ever that none could top Megalohori. It is a traditional village with narrow streets (cars can travel on only a few), which adds to the charm. The villagers are friendly and we happened to be there the days leading up to Palm Sunday so we were able to participate in the ceremony that included decorating an enormous cross and watching with the whole village as the men used ropes and pulleys to raise it in the town square. Afterward everyone lined up for dinner provided by our favorite restaurant, located on the square. We also attended a service in the church and weren’t allowed to leave without taking home bread and chocolate.
At day’s end, after exploring other villages, we had drinks by the pool and walked to one of the many good restaurants. One night we made dinner in the nicely equipped kitchen and ate outside in one of the two lovely courtyards. The owner, Takis, even provides a complimentary bottle of wine for guests.
Staying at Mansion Sophia is everything you dream of when imagining visiting the iconic island of Santorini. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

We had a fabulous week in Mansion Sophia. The Location is perfect. The Villa is perfect. The village was ideal – including several good cafes/restaurants. Very easy to get to any where else in the island – especially using the complimentary car!

Special thanks to Jackie for helping sort our list luggage issue on the first day!

    Missing it already!

What a delightful find! Situated in the still charming village of Megalochori, Maison Sophia was a quite special place to stay. Ideally situated to explore the Caldera and with easy access to great beaches, Megalochori is an excellent location. Combine that with the idyllic charm of an unspoilt village, good restaurants and great bakery what more could you ask for? From first booking Takis went out of his way to ensure our stay was effortless and memorable. I’d recommend without hesitation.

    Stunning and perfectly located

Mansion Sophia is breathtakingly beautiful, and is located in a lovely little traditional village that has everything that you could possibly want, and is perfectly located for exploring Santorini. The restaurants in the village were excellent, whether in the village square or outside. We were looked after very well by the Concierge, Jackie, and all of the staff. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect place to stay.
We stayed with our two young children, but it’s a very romantic setting so we’re talking about returning on day for a wedding anniversary. As a honeymoon location it would be fabulous.

Beautiful villa in absolutely gorgeous surroundings
    26/11/2015 • REVIEWS
My three friends and I booked our October mini break in March and received lovely updates and comms from Takis, the general manager right up until we flew. He was also very accommodating when we wanted to add a fifth guest.

We were happy to see the airport transfers were included, and when we arrived we were met by the hire car company, however we were slightly taken aback to be greeted by two cars and one driver! Bear in mind you may have to drive immediately when you land and will need your driver’s licence. (You will also definitely need the car – Santorini is not really walkable!)

Once we arrived in Megalochori (which is gorgeous) we were met by Jackie, who showed us around the village and villa and was absolutely fantastic.

The villa itself is as gorgeous as the pictures make it look. The pool area is particularly fabulous and there’s access to the roof for late afternoon sunbathing and incredible views of the village.

Megalochori itself is beautiful, charming and quiet – everything you expect a village to be. It has some great restaurants and lovely shops.

    Would heartily recommend!

    A hidden gem

Villa Sofia (or Mansion Sophia as it is described here) is a beautiful haven in the prettiest village on Santorini which is full of local people rather than just being a holiday village. It is not Four Seasons luxury if that is what you are looking for. My wife and I went there for our 25th wedding anniversary. It was unbelievably romantic with our private pool. The village centre was 100 yards away but there was very little night time noise. The restaurants are good and the local people were all friendly. We could go out to busy Oia, Fira, or the beaches but then come home to peace and quiet. A rental car comes with the property. No BMW but a car that makes you fit in with everyone else. Just brilliant.

Mansion Sophia is a gem in Megalochori

We stayed in Mansion Sophia with our 3 teenage daughters. I thought places like this only existed in the movies! The town of Megalochori is charming and Mansion Sophia is a hidden gem. From the moment we arrived, everything was effortless. We were greeted at the airport with our car and were driven directly to Megalochori where we met Jackie our concierge who introduced to the town and villa. We felt like we were in a dream as we walked up the ancient cobblestone road lined with white houses. Mansion Sophia is more beautiful in person than I had imagined with a spectacular courtyard, an inviting pool and gorgeous decor. The master bedroom was large and the smaller bedroom was very comfortable. Our youngest daughter slept on the pull out in the living room and was very happy. The only problem was there was one small bathroom for the 5 of us and as I mentioned, we have three teenage girls so you can imagine the situation. It was all good though because we were on vacation and were in no hurry. Everything Jackie and Takis recommended to us to make our holiday enjoyable was spot on – from the restaurants and activities we honestly could not have asked for a better holiday!

    You’ll Never Forget Mansion Sophia

Of our entire trip across the Greek islands, staying at the Mansion Sophia was certainly the greatest highlight. We were literally transported to another quieter, more relaxed world. Creating that type of experience requires a lot of hard work and a great understanding of hospitality. Takis and team really know what they are doing.

Great Villa in a Great Location

My wife, 13-yo daughter and I stayed at Mansion Sophia for a week, and it was a brilliant choice. Megalochori is a small, peaceful town set back a bit from the sea, and the villa is up a small path from the centre of town where you can eat at four different restaurants, three of which we tried and two which we enjoyed (Marmita and Feggera). The pool is very private and where we spent most of our time when we were at the villa. The master bedroom is quite large, and while the smaller bedroom is on the small side, it would have been fine for a couple and was more than big enough for my daughter. The villa itself is charming. You have the basics and it’s clean – in fact it’s cleaned every day by a maid who always had a smile. The concierge Jackie met us when we arrived exactly as promised, and was very willing to help with whatever we needed, which wasn’t much. The car that’s provided as part of the rental was big enough for three people and our luggage, and we used it all the time during our stay – very convenient. All in all, a great place from which to launch your adventure every day.

    Superb stay

We had a wonderful time in Santorini and a superb stay in Mansion Sophia. The house was very comfortable and the pool area breathtaking.
We also loved the village more than any of the other we visited as it still retained some of its charm and was very traditional.
We shall certainly book with Santorini Heritage again for our next stay In Santorini.

    Perfect spot!

Mansion Sophia is not just well-appointed; it is elegant and at the perfect spot in Santorini. Located so close to the best beaches of the island and all the beautiful attractions like the excavations of akrotiri, yet enjoyably quiet away from the tourist crowds. We will definitely recommend this beautiful villa to all our friends back home.

    Memorable Holidays

Very nice stay. The whole village is one of the most picturesque villages in the Greek islands, where all the houses – most of them recently renovated with colorful Cycladic style gardens – are set amphitheatrically around the central square of the village. Villa Sophia is amazing. Although it is fully renovated and luxurious, they have maintained all the details of the original house that was built almost 150 years ago. We did feel that we traveled back in time. Some of the best family pictures were taken in this house. We will definitely miss the breakfast in our private garden as well as the very stylish swimming pool in the black-rock veranda of the villa. The service was very good and the staff was attentive and tactful. We did find the tranquility and the privacy that were looking for, although the distance from all the “must see” places of the island is 10 minutes by car (except from Oia that took us appx 30 minutes). We will definitely try to repeat it soon.

    Marvellous

We had a wonderful holiday, it is just a shame that the weather was not as warm as we had hoped but there is nothing you could do about that!

The man that met us at the airport to give us our car was charming, I hope his arm is better, poor man. Jackie was very helpful, to be honest we didn’t really need much from her but it was incredibly kind of her to bring a chess set which we used every day. The lady that came to clean was very polite and brilliant and the people that came to clean the pool were lovely.

The villa is in the most wonderful setting, we went to both the tavernas nearby and did lots of sightseeing especially as the weather wasn’t great and it was the perfect place to come back to after a day out.

We liked the music that you had chosen for the ipod, fitted in with the very cool interior of the property.

Thank you Takis and Jackie and all for a super holiday in your beautiful villa.

    Fabulous stay

Beautiful traditional greek house, delicately renovated, kept all it’s charm. Simple local decoration, very comfortable beds. A large patio with pool serves as the hub of the house, a smaller patio as a dining room and the terrace is perfect to savour an evening ouzo admiring the view over the roofs and the countryside @ this tiny village.
Wonderful homely and delicious restaurant at the back of the house, more in the central square.
Perfect base to explore the island away from the tourist crowd. We loved it, and so did the kids!

    Best choice made!

Megalochori proved to be the perfect spot for our group!

The full Santorini Heritage package made our trip so headache free – the car, their assistance, the whole team! They gave us excellent suggestions ! We are still talking about Psaraki – the seafood place in Vlychada and our catamaran trip !

They delivered everything that was posted in their site! The pictures do not lie – the place is great !They made our first trip to Greece quite memorable and we now look forward to making our way back again!

    Great Vacation villa
    17/10/2012 • REVIEWS
We stayed at Mansion Sophia for five nights the first week of October and had an incredible stay. The pool and terrace were wonderful for enjoying the 80 degree weather, and we took advantage of the kitchen to cook lunch and dinner a few days. The villa is spacious, and the concierge, maid, gardener, and pool cleaner could not have been nicer.

Megalochori is a charming village. After visiting Fira, Oia, Pyrgos, and Kamari, we were so happy we stayed there. Three great restaurants are located around the village square, and they are no more than a minute or two walk from the villa. Numerous vineyards are nearby as well. Megalochori was also a great base from which to explore the island. The villa is very near parking which is convenient if you rent a car (like we did), and Santorini Heritage provided lots of great suggestions for things to do on the island.

All in all, we could not have asked for a better vacation.

    Perfect for wedding ceremony!

We chose Mansion Sophia for our wedding and honeymoon mainly because it seemed like such a romantic place from the photos. That was the case and we were happy to discover that the villa was as beautiful as we were expecting it to be..So nice that we had our wedding ceremony in the courtyard by the pool with candle lights and music! It was perfect and all friends back home were thrilled to see the fantastic pictures we took..

Gorgeous villa in a gorgeous island…

My husband, my baby girl and myself spend 4 nights in Mansion Sophia last October and we absolutely loved our time there. The concierge, Jackie, was very helpful and helped us to arrange some excellent activities: I totally recommend the boat trip to the caldera bay during sunset! Amazing experience..
The villa itself is beautiful, spotlessly cleaned daily and with tasteful decoration, in a way that makes you feel relaxed and on holiday mood..
We appreciated having two bedrooms so that our daughter could sleep in her own room, and the kitchen served us well for preparing breakfast every morning as well as a few dinners.
The pool is just gorgeous and the villa location is really convenient to a lot of fantastic beaches as well as other attractions of the island. The closest beach is about 10 minutes drive (called Vlichada?) and is quite spectacular. If you want more cosmopolitan setting, you must go to Perivolos beach, 15 minute away from the villa, with all the nice beach clubs, although not many were open during the period we visited (low season). Nevertheless the weather was lovely so we were able to see most of the island, thanks to the free car rental which came with the villa.
Santorini is gorgeous, as was the villa. We had a fantastic time and we hope we can go back soon..

I went there with my girlfriend and we really enjoyed our stay. The villas are well decorated, built in the traditional Santorini style that put us in a perfect mood for a memorable vacation. We enjoyed our private swimming pool and we took some of the best pictures of my life.

A dreamy wedding, an amazing place…

I had always had a dream to be married in the incredibly romantic Santorini and last year this came true with the help of the guys at Santorini Heritage (thanks Takis!). Not only they arranged for our accommodation in the beautiful Mansion Sophia, but also they took care of all formalities so we could be married in the yard of an u-n-b-e-l-i-e-v-a-b-l-e chapel named Stavros which is located at the cliff (Caldera) facing the volcano and the sunset… They also arranged a private dinner for our 15 guests at the absolutely breathtaking courtyard of our villa, by the pool, with candle lights and romantic music…
We had the time of our lives and we will definitely come back…

    Definitely worth our money!

We loved everything about it, the location, the layout and most of all, the courtyard with the private pool. Definitely worth our money.
Our only remark was the rather small door which leads to the kitchen: If you do not pay attention you could smack your head! Fortunately, we were informed about it by the concierge, who explained that during the renovation they had to respect the original layout of this very old mansion, so they left the doors unchanged.
We would love to go back someday..

    A Wonderful Retreat!

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and I can recommend this villa highly. We had a wonderful private concierge who was unbelievably helpful and booked a catamaran cruise which was the highlight of our stay. The villa itself was lovely and everyone (the maid, handyman, the concierge and the owner) were all so obliging and helpful. We enjoyed the pool immensely – it truly is a lovely pool and the villa is lovely and very private – a really wonderful retreat.

    A lovely get-away on Santorini

The villa Sophia was absolutely charming, lovely interiors and exteriors, flowers everywhere. The service, from the pick-up at the airport to the initial tour of the house to the daily housekeeping, was excellent.

The village is central to almost everywhere but you can escape the hustle and bustle of Santorini to the delightful courthouse and the lovely pool.

    Sensational villa!

For our 10years wedding anniversary we decided to visit Santorini and rent a villa in order to celebrate properly with my wife. We googled Mansion Sophia and after reading possitive feedback we dediced to book it.I must say, this villa lived up to the hype! Really romantic, with great architecture and a lovely pool. The service was excellent and the location was very convenient in the middle of the island (10-15 minutes away from all the best the island has to offer). I must mention that this was our first time in a villa (we hesitated in the past and selected 4-5 star hotels) but we had such good experience that we will be prefering villas like this in the future, as they offer privacy and peace of mind..

    Loved it!

That was a great villa, we absolutely loved it.
It combined very well the traditional Greek style with modern amenities.
The pool area was stunning but maybe our favorite place was the small garden in which you entered through the kitchen door, where we used to eat having views of the village with its lovely church domes and bells..
We miss the place so much!

A place full of history and culture…
    17/12/2010 • REVIEWS
My wife and I, decided to have a mini break on May 2009, so Santorini was
our obvious choice, since we are Greeks and this is our favorite island!
A friend of ours recommended to stay in a villa for once and avoid the hotels in Caldera with the
magnificent view but total lack of privacy..
I must say, we are so glad that we followed our friend’s advice, as we had a
terrific time! First of all, the villa we chose (Mansion Sophia) was
astonishing! It had a really big and very private courtyard with a beautiful
garden and a Moroccan-Style pool where we spend most of our time
lounging in the hammock or the pool beds.. There was also another,
smaller courtyard with flower beds and a big dining table which has lovely
view of the village (Megalohori).
The interiors of the house were also breathtaking and spacious: The master
bedroom had a really big and romantic four-poster bed. Being an architect,
I was impressed by the ceilings which were traditional, high vaulted and by
the authentic polished wooden floors of the salon. The manager of the
company told us that this house was built on the 19th Century and
belonged to a wealthy merchants’ family who exported Santorinian wine.
That explained the beauty and layout of this house, which also featured a
canava area for the production of the wine.
We cannot recommend enough Mansion Sophia, as it offers
not just accommodation, but the privilege to stay in a place full of history
and culture!

Last year my husband arranged for a surprise romantic trip to Santorini and selected Mansion Sophia after searching the internet. I have to say that I was stunned when I entered this villa! The architecture of the building and the beautiful courtyard with the garden and the pool was so romantic, perfect for our occasion! We had a great time and enjoyed having a glass of wine by the pool listening to soft music…
