This large villa in southern Germany sits in an expanse of nature overlooking the national park of Saxon Switzerland. With its large outdoor pool, sauna and private forest, it’s a really great vacation home for rent in Germany for a large group wanting to get away from it all.
This vacation home for rent in Germany has a really interesting history. Built in 1928 by a lawyer who had to flee at the end of World War II, it passed into the hands of the Interior Ministry of the East German government, who used it as a vacation home.
In the early 1990s, Thomas and Sylvia Heinle, an architect and a graphic designer, found the house while they were exploring the region. Over the course of 15 years, they restored it, and lived there with their children. They recently moved back to Dresden and now use the property as a vacation home.
The house is located in a former quarry overlooking the Elbandsteingebirge mountains, near the border with the Czech Republic, and has stunning views of the region from its windows and terraces. The space the Heinles created is bright and modern, and manages to be both cosy and spacious.
It’s a large property that accommodates up to eight guests in five bedrooms, a living room with open fireplace, a gallery, a library, a dining room and a spacious kitchen.
Some great features include a sauna, a 16m outdoor pool, and a large park-like garden with its own forest and meadow. Better still, there are no neighbors nearby, which gives the property a great feeling of seclusion.
This is a great vacation rental for a large family or group of friends, but it can also be rented at a reduced rate by smaller groups. There is an additional, smaller cabin on the property which sleeps 2-3 guests and is also available for rental.
Rates include wireless Internet, power, water, heating, bedding, hand towels, final cleaning, and wood for the stove. If requested, a full refrigerator can be provided and daily baked goods can be delivered (additional cost).
The house is located south of Dresden and north of Prague, and both cultural centers are easily reached by train or car. The house is surrounded in nature, and it overlooks the Elbandsteingebirge (Elbe Sandstone Mountains), which are part of the Nationalpark Sächsische Schweiz, also known as Saxon Switzerland or Bohemian Switzerland. The Park offers abundant opportunities for hiking and climbing.
There are several castles nearby, including the spectacular Königstein Fortress, a hilltop castle near Dresden, which hosts special cultural events throughout the year. Other attractions include thermal baths.
