These elegant wooden houses on the Baltic coast of Germany make great weekend escapes or longer vacation rentals. We love the contemporary urban feel of the two homes, surrounded in forest and only minutes away from the sand dunes. Two great holiday homes in Germany for large groups.
Located in between pine forests and sand dunes, close enough to the sea to stroll across the sand barefoot, this property in Neuhaus on the Baltic coast of Germany was designed by architect Herbert Hussmann and opened in 2016. It’s composed of two homes, one called Pine and one called Sand.
Each two-story house has an “urban cool” feel but is set in idyllic countryside. The contemporary wooden cabins have clean lines and subtle colors, and are furnished with modern pieces such as Minotti and Vitra lounge chairs, Wegener armchairs, Zoe leather furniture and B&B corner couches.
Both houses are decorated with contemporary fine art by the likes of Thomas Scheibitz, Adrian Sauer, Bettina Krieg, Philipp Grözinger, Amelie Grözinger, Hannelore van Dijk, Franziska Holstein, Jens Hausmann and Tony Cragg. And the owners of the property collaborate with the project space Smac Berlin (smac-berlin.org).
As if that weren’t enough, there’s also great tech – Naim music systems with Bluetooth speakers, Blu-ray players and flat-screen TVs. And did we mention private saunas with direct access to the terraces? Yes, they have those too.
Two really great holiday homes in Germany, perfect for large groups of friendf and family sharing a weekend getaway or a longer break.
Pine has four bedrooms, each with a double bed. Sand has three. The ground floor is a living area with a dining table and open kitchen. Kitchens have crockery and cutlery for eight people, cooking utensils, a Nespresso coffee machine with milk frother, microwave, dishwasher, wine cooler, toaster, mixer, kettle and juice press. There are linens and towels, a washing machine, dryer, iron and board.
There are two terraces per house, the larger one facing the dunes, and the smaller one on the other side. They have gas grill, dining tables with benches, deck chairs, blankets and a fireplace. Each house has two parking spaces.
The houses are located on the Baltic coast, about 25km north of Rostock. around 200m away from the beach, which is accessible via a trail across the dunes. The seaside resort of Dierhagen lies at the mouth of the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula, and the two houses are located slightly out of the town center.
There are art galleries, restaurants and tennis courts nearby. For guests wanting to swim, there are pools at two hotels within walking distance, which are open to visitors for a small fee. The Bodden-Therme is 10km away in Ribnitz-Damgarten, and and Aquadrom with a swimming pool, wellness spa and sports facilities is located in Graal/Müritz.
Dierhagen-Neuhaus, Germany. Nearest airports: Rostock-Laage (45 minutes), Berlin-Tegel (2.5 hours).
