We love the old world feel and bohemian vibe here. There’s a great long ago hidden identity and history that has not been overpowered by modern intrusion. A truly peaceful and creative approach to village life.
Mountain View Apartment Caromb, Provence, France

- Apartment
- 2 BR
- Sleeps 4
- from € 950 wk
The long history of this residence is evident the moment you lay eyes on it. Built in the 16th century and home at one time to both a travelers hotel and convent, it retains its historic character and has become a relaxing and artistic sanctuary. Housed in the same complex as its companion apartment Le Refuge de l’Artiste, you can have your choice of two distinctive residences.
Set atop the upper floors and opening out to a stunning view of the mountains in the distance and the village below, this apartment is lovingly realized with an artistic eye and heart.
Using local materials, influences and ideas along with great personal and classic French style, the architectural personality and attention to detail harmonize perfectly. With great use of saturated color and eclectic decor and furnishings the effect is warm and inviting.
With two full bedrooms and one bath, the apartment can accommodate up to four and benefits from the great communal layout of the building. You’ll have the amazing rooftop terrace and lounge all to yourself though, and it’s one of the best spots in the house with stunning views. There is an artists workshop along with a beautiful arched gallery where the hosts feature open house nights with music and art exhibitions.
Simple and rustic, this is a great find that is a step back in time and a chic little hideaway from which to enjoy the French countryside.

We stayed in this beautiful apartment for only 2 nights, to attend a bike-event at the Mont Ventoux, but wished we would have had the time to enjoy it longer! It really is an amazing old house, and the apartment was very spacious and tastefully furnitured. Also, Axelle & Ian were very hospitable. If we are ever in the neighbourhood again, I will definitely go back!

Me and a friend came to the Vaucluse to climb the Mt Ventoux, the day before leaving home we found “Le Beau Voyageur”. From the first contact everything went very smooth, exactly what we needed so late in the game. Axelle and Ian are amazing people and wonderful hosts. Their life as travellers and artists has been perfectly translated in the little heaven they created in Caromb. The apartment is among the most beautiful places I’ve ever stayed in (there have been many). Everything in the house works, makes sense and has been tastefully selected. The spaces in and out side are mapped out perfectly. Caromb is cute and nicely located in this paradise for people who love cycling and can handle a challenge. The view of Mt Ventoux from my bedroom was gorgeous and same for the view from the top after the cruel 21k climb. I highly recommend “Le Beau Voyageur” and I will go back for sure.

Our stay with Axelle, Ian and their little daughter in their wonderful 16th century house was a definite highlight of our holiday in France. Axelle and Ian, as well as being very musical and interesting people were friendly and welcoming and provided us with good suggestions for eating out.
The house was amazingly historic, artistically decorated and furnished with everything that was necessary to make our stay comfortable. The most interesting aspect of our stay was the tour of the older part of the house. Axelle and Ian took great pleasure in telling us the story of the house, how it had changed over time and their future plans for preserving the history. Thankyou for a wonderful stay!

This is truly a special place, and the highlight of our trip to Europe. Ian and Axelle were exceptional hosts and went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and memorable. The building is incredible, and the hosts have done a fabulous job of providing modern conveniences and artistic touches while maintaining the natural beauty of this 500 year old landmark. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped, and the decor is a beatiful mix of antiques and art. We highly recommend this home to anyone looking to stay in the Provence region and hope to return soon.

Lovely, amazing place. Ian and Axelle clearly deeply care about the place, and have undergone a beautiful renovation which maintained the character of the home. They have great, clever design taste. And they are wonderful hosts who go out of their way to provide any help they can to guests. The village is cute, but not as exciting or impressive as some of the other more well known villages in the region; we spent most of our time driving
to other spots nearby.

This place is incredible and truly memorable.
The building is amazing – it’s 500 years old and has a lot of history. Axelle and Ian have done a great job renovating it – it has kept the original character of the building but thankfully doesn’t have 500 year old showers and beds! The living spaces are really comfy and the decoration is undeniably cool and artistic. Axelle and Ian are also great hosts – they were great to talk to (in English, whew) and they helped us get a sense of the surrounding area.
I would highly recommend staying here – it is definitely the most interesting building I’ve ever slept in!
