Pairing the striking modernist vision of architect Craig Rosevear with the wild Tasmanian coast proves to be an inspired match. With its unusual monolithic wall design and facade, walls of glass with captivating views and the bold but simple interior concept, this house has both the stylish drama and luxurious intimacy that makes it the ideal escape for two.
This award-winning modernist retreat perched in the forested Tasmanian bush feels a million miles away. South of Swansea overlooking the white sands of Great Oyster Bay and Maria Island, the house inhabits one of the most stunning and secluded areas of Tasmania's east coast.
Designed and conceived in 2004 by award-winning Australian architect Craig Rosevear, the building is constructed of concrete besser block and glass as well as sustainable materials and techniques designed to minimize the environmental impact. The dramatic silhouette engages with the environment with its diagonal blade walls that reach out to the horizon and a low profile that integrates and harmonizes with the rugged setting.
The interiors are comprised of a single open-plan space featuring floor to ceiling windows on three sides and a simple but spacious layout. The room flows in a circular motion with a central wall that divides the kitchen and dining spaces from the sleeping area and incorporates the main living room all with magnificent views. Elegantly furnished with plush decor, objet d'art and custom furnishings, the space feels calm, stylish and completely unique.
On one of three outdoor decks, there is a beautiful custom Huon Pine tub for relaxing under the stars and soaking up the panoramic view. Head to the fully equipped studio where you'll find the tools and inspiration to paint, sculpt, draw, escape and refresh your creative side. Fashioned from an old church that was going to be demolished, the entire building was dismantled and resurrected on site and strikes and amazing contrast to the house.
This extraordinary and creative retreat offers a private and indulgent getaway for two.
