What we like about this property

When spectacular natural beauty and inspired architecture come together, it’s magic…This holiday home in Bali merges visionary modern design principles with a deep respect for the island’s culture and traditions. We love the bold, abstract silhouette and innovative design that captures and celebrates this extraordinary site.

Description

Set high atop Kedewatan Ridge overlooking breathtaking views of the Ayung River valley, the jungle slopes and the wild river below, this holiday home in Bali is a magical and emotional experience. Located next to Kedewatan’s village temple, it is just outside of the town of Ubud, the cultural and spiritual heart of Bali.

Designed by an internationally renowned architect and inspired by the magnificent landscape, the beautifully angled roof lines and intriguing asymmetry of the indoor and outdoor spaces are in a continual dialogue with nature and were modeled on the art of origami.

Designed and built with meticulous attention to detail, the home’s bold lines and sculptural silhouette reveals and highlights differing perspectives of the property and the landscape, remaining respectful of its very special site.

The expansive living room extends out to a large terrace with lounge and dining areas and spectacular views of the river valley, and the private gardens.

The house includes three en suite bedrooms, each with floor to ceilings glass for peaceful and inspiring views. Blending modern and traditional themes, the interiors are a mix of the exotic and the contemporary.

Providing services to match any luxury hotel, the house is fully staffed including a private chef who serves classic Indonesian and contemporary cuisine as well as daily breakfast.

Immersed into the lush gardens, the infinity pool overlooks the amazing view of the river valley and rice fields below with a traditional meditation Bale and white lotus pond in the lower gardens.

Continuously changing throughout the day, the panoramic spectacle reveals new layers of light, space, color and texture, offering the ultimate tropical living experience.

AROUND

Passing through jaw dropping natural beauty on mountain roads leading from the coast, the cooler jungle highland regions give way to the famous inland town of Ubud. Many discovered it through the “Eat, Pray, Love” book and tourists have begun to descend in larger numbers but it’s also a traditional town with arts and cultural centers, good eats and a laid back vibe. The villa sits just outside of Ubud in the small town of Gianyar, where you’ll have a first hand glimpse into authentic village life with all its rituals, beautiful dress and traditional ceremonies.

Just an hour outside of the sprawling and slightly chaotic capital of Denpasar, you are also within an hour of the coastal beaches and surfing in Seminyak. You won’t want to miss the stunning Taman National Reserve which sits at the farthest western tip where the nearby Pulaki Hindu Temple and it’s monkey inhabitants make for a fun day trip. The island’s abundant rice terraces are lush and peaceful and a romantic reminder of the way of life that has flourished here for centuries.

Umah Villa is a sanctuary for holiday makers seeking a private retreat in the picturesque UBUD. I must admit my reservations when the driver turned into a small driveway leading to Umah Tampih. But when the gate opens to a modern architect and the valley landscape, I knew the holiday will be special.

The villa manager and its staff were excellent and they always make you feel at home entertaining your every beck and call. Maybe this is the magic of Bali people, their philosophy and attitude towards life. The home made food were fresh and prepared in traditional Balinese style. Surely, I would go back again and I hope its not a too distant future. Thanks again to all at Umah Villa.

Suffice it to say that, as an achitect, this is what it feels like to experience living in a house that belongs in an international caliber architectural magazine. The materials, attention to detail, and spacial experience is second to none. The location is fabulous, and while so close to Ubud all one sees is rice terraces, jungle and the river. Even traffic noise disappears drowned out by the sound of rushing water. So soothing.
The service is exemplary, the in-house dinners magnificent, the lap pool was a real pool (not some giant kidney shape tub),
and the outdoor covered living space luxurious (as the massage on the deck).

“Coming home at night tired and burying your face in those yummy pillows is total bliss……everything smells so fresh!
Sitting by the pond with the river rushing below, the volcanoes draped in pink clouds in the distance…..amid the lush greenness of the garden, and with soulful music wafting down the hill – about as close to paradise as you can get.
The Umah Villa staff is so helpful and truly enjoy their duties, they seem to sense when you need something by studying your habits, then they’re on-the-spot when you’re ready to do something, before you even ask. They are a true pleasure to deal with, you just want to put them in your suitcase and take them home……..

The food was so delicious and nutritious, served with such thoughtfulness. We felt cared for, not just served to, at each meal. It was fabulous and colorful and fulfilling every single time. After a long day, we gave a sigh of relief when our driver pulled into the driveway, like……”Ah, we’re home, what a nice feeling”…

I have stayed in Umah Villa for a couple of days and I have to say that this has been the best villa/hotel I have ever stayed in. The location and view has something spiritual, overlooking the forrest and the rice fields. The open architecture is simply perfect. Every material, every arrangement is so thought through that you enter the property and feel like never leaving again. On top of that, the staff is lovely as well. You feel like being with friends in such a harmonic way, that every stay at Umah Villa can only be a perfect and so relaxing experience.
