Located along a private stretch of the Atlantic coast, this luxury beach house rental in Vero Beach was built in 1960 as a getaway destination for the original owners. Constructed in the classic mid-century style, its design is equal parts vintage modern and casual beach bungalow, with the original slanted roofline, clerestory windows, and exposed beams that were the hallmarks of the era.
Discovered and completely renovated in 2013 by a New York City based interior designer, the slightly forlorn structure was restored inside and out with respect and appreciation for its history and surroundings, and a liberal dose of contemporary glamour.
The monochromatic color palette of the interiors is offset by the lush green of the gardens and decorated in a modern homage to the mid-century with polished chrome, leather, velvet and sisal accents. The vibe is low key and zen with a cozy living and dining area adjacent to the state of the art kitchen and doors that open out to the gardens. With two en suite bedrooms, the house sleeps four and is ideal for couples or family getaways.
Immersed into the private lush gardens, there's a grotto patio for al fresco dining under the palms and a screened porch with chaise lounges for sunset cocktails, all with the sound of crashing waves in the background.
ORCHID ISLAND
A quieter and thankfully far less developed stretch of the Atlantic Coast, Orchid Island and the surrounding waterways are an under the radar spot close to Vero Beach's great shops, arts and foodie scene. With gorgeous beaches, the area's best surfing breaks, and abundant marine life, the areas' unspoiled shores are home to the resident nesting sea turtles where you can spy mama and hatchlings if you're lucky. It's also flanked by plenty of natural wonders along the Indian River and lagoons including the Pelican Island Refuge.
Check out the Saturday morning Farmer's Market on Ocean Drive for fresh local foods and fish and enjoy the more laid back village vibe of the town. Just over two hours from South Beach and all that Miami has to offer, you're also within ninety minutes of Orlando.
