AROUND
Yucatán retains a lot of authenticity, and Mérida is a gem: one of the safest cities in Mexico, with a provincial atmosphere and cosmopolitan flair. For history buffs, it’s a treasure trove made up of a colonial center, archeological sites, and haciendas. The cathedral square and the colorful Lucas de Gálvez Market are both within walking distance of the house.
Morning tacos as well as the best local restaurants are all found on easy walks, but if you’d prefer to eat at home, there are many little convenience stores nearby, as well as the market.
Adventurers will love the many cenotes (sunken lakes in which you can swim), kayaking in the mangroves, or going horseback riding on the beach. Meanwhile, wildlife lovers should head for the reserve at Celestún, especially in flamingo season, from November through February.
Farther afield, visit the ancient Mayan city of Uxmal (85km, or 1h 10 mins by car), and the lovely Sisal beach, long extensions of dunes and mangroves along a very peaceful shore (70km, or 1h by car). Progreso is the nearest coastal town (45 minutes).
LOCATION
Mérida, Yucatan, Mexico. Nearest airports: Mérida International Airport (MID): 6km (10 mins by taxi), Cancún International Airport (CUN): 300km.
BEST TIME TO VISIT: Mérida is warm all year round. November to April has mild and spring-like weather. And the absolute best time to visit Mérida is around 1st November for the Día de los Muertos festivities. May to July are hot and humid months so a great time to make the most of the pool.

First and foremost Antonio’s hospitality was outstanding. On arrival he welcomed us personally and had even gone as far to have the fridge stocked with beverages, breakfast items, fruit and the most divine bread . It was so thoughtful and so appreciated as we had travelled quite far. Antonio is very knowledgeable about the area and provided us with well detailed guides , suggestions and answered any questions we had. The house itself is impeccable the decor is beautiful , a stunning architectural masterpiece with the most beautiful maintained pool and garden . It is without a doubt the most amazing house I have ever visited and we were very tempted to just stay indoors for the duration of our trip. The cleanliness was to a very high standard so to anyone concerned about sanitary safety measure Antonio is your ideal host. All in all we had such a wonderful time and if I do return to Merida would love to stay there again. Thank you for the amazing experience.

Excellent. One of the coolest places I have ever stayed. Inspiring me to build something similar. Thank you Antonio.

How can I begin to describe the most amazing experience we’ve had with any vacation rentals over the last decade? We are avid travelers and we are usually on the road around 3 months every year, experiencing new cultures and trying new flavors; sometimes you feel like you are a complete outsider, but Antonio makes sure you feel like you just arrived home. Right when you enter his place, you are pleasantly shocked with the architectural change from the Colonial streets of Merida to an exquisite chef-caliber kitchen; minimalistic yet warmth. He went above and beyond, leaving a delicious home made loaf of bread, plenty of fresh fruit and breakfast basics in the fridge. Then you transition to the living room and dining room, where you can get lost for hours reading your favorite book or drinking a cup of coffee while contemplating that amazing swimming pool and gorgeous landscaping. Then, as you enter the bedroom, you’ll notice delightful architectural touches with polished concrete and authentic oil canvas paintings on the wall. The bed is super comfortable, the AC works perfect, the walk-in closet is massive and functional. You will love the bathroom which completely opens, facing the backyard and swimming pool, however, you have the same privacy as if you were surrounded by walls due to the tropical landscaping. There’s also a hot tub for you to relax. The place is super close from the main square (.5 miles) and super quiet at night. Antonio, you have set the bar super high for our next host. Thank you!

Antonio was a wonderful host. Five star service from booking to check-out. The house is truly magnificent. And the service felt like staying at a luxury hotel. Can’t wait to be back again.

The house has a unique minimalist design, but every detail very well thought out. For those who enjoy design, it is an excellent option. The pool is a very good size. Antonio’s attention is very good, he is attentive, he is very attentive and always responds very quickly. A highly recommended place!

Antonio was an outstanding host! The apartment was better than expected and he went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. I had the best birthday in this lovely apartment. The design made us feel like we were living in a palace. Great value for such an amazing spot! Highly recommend

A memorable experience, we traveled to Merida for our anniversary. Antonio received us and the house is simply spectacular. The pool and areas are huge and romantic. We feel in paradise. There is a beautiful, well-equipped kitchen to prepare food, the bed is extremely comfortable and all the amenities were of high quality. In general, there is a vibe of timeless luxury, very difficult to find in home rental accommodations. Our only “problem” was that after knowing the house we no longer wanted to leave. They have to know La Tropical.

Antonio’s place was one of the highlight of our trip in Yucatán. When you enter the house you’re first amazed by how high the ceiling is and how stylish everything looks. The more you stay the more you realise how much love and efforts has been put in this place! It is perfectly located in the city centre, one block away from the ADO bus terminal. Antonio was very responsive and keen to help in every way he could. We highly recommend this amazing place!

What can I say, this place is AMAZING. One of the most incredible home rentals I’ve ever stayed in. The architecture, design, furnishings, pool…everything is stunning and really well planned and built. You’ll especially love it if you are a modern minimalist design lover like me! It’s also MASSIVE, and very very clean and beautiful as it is newly built. And Antonio could not have been a better host – he was very quick to respond, really helpful and flexible. And, we really appreciated the wonderful welcome pack – a very kind gesture. Thoroughly recommend – and hope I can visit again some day.
