One of several homes restored and redesigned by a pair of American expats, this vacation home rental in Merida is a beautifully and respectfully restored colonial gem. We love the elegant architectural features with colorful pastel hues, the inspired collection of furnishings and decor and the dazzling array of mosaic tile.

Centrally located in one the oldest barrios of Merida’s historic colonial center, this 18th-century vacation home rental in the Yucatan is one of over a dozen historic properties restored by of a pair of American expats.
Enlisting the help of Yucatan based designer Josue Ramos, the duo’s past in the world of fashion, interior design and fine arts is evident in the restoration as well as the tasteful and simple luxuries of each of their homes.
A stately and historic residence, the home retains all of it’s original colonial beauty with soaring interiors, ornate architectural features and stunningly beautiful mosaic tile work. Color washed in bright pastels, both the interiors and exteriors are authentically restored with history, comfort and style in mind. Divided into four zones, guests can live independently and privately and gather in the kitchen or by the pool. In the main house is the living room and a guest bedroom as well as the portico designed for dining and leisure. On the opposite side of the interior courtyard, a separate residence houses the completely redesigned modern eat in kitchen and bar.
Upstairs, the gorgeous master suite is perched within the treetops with windows that open onto the highest branches of the ceiba tree where you’ll be visited by tropical birds in the mornings. There is a private terrace with impressive views of the nearby colonial churches that’s ideal for sunbathing or stargazing. The third guest room includes a private balcony overlooking the pool and views of the cathedral and plaza grande.
As avid collectors of crafts and antiques, the house is filled with an eclectic mix of modern and vintage furnishings with elegant European pieces alongside locally crafted items.
Designed for outdoor living as well as indoor, the shady central courtyard features a fountain with terraces shaded by two massive ceiba trees and a shade garden of ferns and wild orchids with plenty of poolside lounge areas.
This colonial beauty’s enduring allure makes for an inspiring stay in the heart of Merida.

AROUND
The capital of Mexico’s Yucatan region, Merida is a bustling city of picturesque colonial beauty, cultural riches and ancient Mayan history. The grand boulevard of Paseo de Montejo leads through the town’s historic center with it’s cobbled stone streets, tree lined plazas and slightly faded but stately 16th century colonial buildings alongside great local markets, cheap eats and a lively neighborhood night life in the shadows of Santa Ana church. Currently undergoing a renaissance of sorts, the town is attracting a flow of expats, artists and a few other bohemian imports from around the world but is steadfastly it’s own cultural creation.
Located within 40 minutes of the area’s famous beaches, you are also within a short drive to the area’s interesting former sisal manufacturing villages of Sac Chich and Acanceh, and just under an hour from the famous Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, Izamal and the port town of Progresso on the gulf of Mexico. There are several historic convents including Tecoh, Muni, Mani, and Ticul as well as the Mayan Site of Mayapan along the famous convent route to explore, and the Loltun Caves and Uxmal are an hour away as are the many amazing cenotes or secret coves where you can swim in crystal clear water. Cancun is a 3 hour drive.
