What we like about this property

This vacation home for rent in Guatemala is placed to take advantage of the magical mystical beauty of Lake Atitlan and is immersed in total privacy. Designed with a stylish combination of rustic and contemporary design that fits right in with the landscape, it’s equipped with its own lake shore beach in a hideaway to call your own.

Description

Set directly on the shores of Lake Atitlán, this vacation home for rent in Guatemala is a secluded retreat that invites you to relax and recharge in your own personal and private paradise. Situated on almost three acres of lush gardens, forests and orchards, the home is perched above the shore with panoramic views of the lake and volcanic mountains.

Designed and built by a Czech/American glass artist and his wife, the home and property were created and crafted by hand, from the art on the walls to the furnishings and landscaped gardens.

Embracing the area’s dramatic yet peaceful tranquility, the home fuses simple rustic elements with contemporary design and flexible, open-plan living. The main loft-like room features high ceilings and glass doors that frame the scenery with polished wood floors and a warmth and subtle sophistication that also showcases the beauty of traditional Guatemalan arts and crafts. The bedroom opens into it through a large sliding barn door which is situated adjacent to the well equipped gourmet kitchen and all of the rooms have access to the wrap around deck overlooking the lake.

Derived from the Ancient Buddhist word for ‘peaceful mountain’, Anzan is designed as a private sanctuary where the owners philosophy and primary focus is on individual attention and wellness. Drawing from Ayurvedic practices, there are optional wellness retreats on offer as well as culinary experiences that merge Mediterranean and local cuisine with seasonal organic produce, carefully selected and prepared by staff creating a unique and immersive experience designed to help bring you back into balance.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

Wifi throughout, more than 500 movies–if you bring your computer and USB, library of books in different languages, board games. Optional guided tours, private transportation, personal chef with organic produce/food delivery and meal service on your terrace with advance reservations. Multi-sensory Yoga and meditation are offered alongside massage and spa services. Custom retreats and day trips that include unique cultural adventures drawing on the most authentic elements of the local Mayan culture, from community visits to cooking classes and Spanish lessons. Kayaks for guest use.

AROUND

The region in and around the southwestern highlands of Lake Atitlan is one of Guatemala’s most picturesque and culturally rich destinations. Formed from a massive volcanic crater and surrounded by steep pointy slopes, the area is home to several traditional Mayan villages including the town of Panajachel, San Juan la Laguna, Jaibalito and Santiago Atitlán where you can take in the ancient Mayan culture while exploring weaving and textile arts, coffee and agricultural plantations, local fishing practices and an unmissable boat tour of the lake’s history. Check out the Atitlán nature reserve and coffee plantation that offers a network of walking trails and a butterfly garden. It’s a twenty minute walk to the village of San Marcos for perusing the restaurants and shops where you can grab a local tuk-tuk or boat ride which launches every twenty minutes.

LOCATION

Lake Atitlan, Guatemala. Nearest Airport: Guatemala City Airport. It is recommended to book a morning flight (before noon) to ensure a comfortable arrival at the property, as the shuttle direct to Panajachel takes approximately 3 hours and the boat leaving from Panajachel to the property departs at 7:30pm. It is also recommended that guests book late afternoon departure flights from Guatemala City, due to the transport times, to ensure that you don’t feel rushed to make connections.

BEST TIME TO VISIT:  The best weather is from December through February with dry season running from November through April. Temperatures are pretty mild year round.

Literally a stay of a lifetime. The tranquil serenity, the majestic landscape, the international multitude of a tree, plant and flower varieties, the hand crafted contemporary minimalistic furnishings that the host designed, the Feng shui, airy, natural light imbued architecture (which the host also designed) infused us with peace, relaxation, creativity, and love. We can’t wait to return to our new found nirvana.

Dita wasa great hosts and very responsive to emails. We hit traffic on the way to Pana and didn’t arrive until 9 PM, but Dita was able to help us arrange for a private boat to take us out to the house. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to meet Dita but John was very helpful and a great cook! We had breakfast out on the dock (highly recommend!!!) in the morning and the view was spectacular. The house itself was way bigger than what’s in the pictures and very pleasant. My favorite part is sitting out on the terrace every morning – a great way to start the day!

Dita’s loft described in one word is: amazing! It looks exactly like on the pictures! We enjoyed the great view and the peace of this place very much. Everything was perfect, the communication with Dita the location, the cleanness! And don’t miss the breakfast – it is delicious!

Very accurate description! We had a beautiful time! The loft has the most beautiful view of the lake and is very close to town. We felt very safe and didn’t have any problems. Dita is a phenomenal host and cook! She cooked us the most delicious dinner and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

What a wonderful experience, all around! The location of Dita’s place has stunning volcano and lake views, not to mention the house is immaculate, with beautiful art and high end finishes. But the highlight of our trip wasn’t these things, it was the hospitality of Dita and her family. Do yourself a favor and eat breakfast and dinner on site, as Dita’s cooking is healthy, organic and couldn’t be more delicious. We truly loved every aspect of our stay and are so thankful for the genuine hospitality and kindness we experienced.

This was our best vacation rental stay yet, we very much enjoyed your hospitality and kindness. Look forward to seeing you in the future!

Upon our arrival we were warmly greeted by Dita. We had help with our luggage to the Artist’s Loft. The place was beautiful with floor to ceiling glass doors that overlook a porch with a view of Lake Atitlan and the volcanoes. This is the most beautiful place we have ever been and the nicest vacation rental. There were fresh flowers in all the rooms and the place is beautifully designed with tasteful furnishings. It was clean and smelled good and the beds were firm. We were able to air dry our towels on a rack outside. We especially liked the porch and having coffee or lunch there and just hanging out. We loved the surrounding grounds with the fruit trees, flowers, birds and lizards. We were glad that we were able to compost during our stay. Our host Dita was very helpful in arranging boat and land transportation and arranging a visit to a weaving cooperative that she founded. Our daughter enjoyed spending time with the hosts’ daughter – something that she normally does not get to do on a vacation. We were able to take a long hike with the help of Miguel, the gardener who took us to his village. We were sad to leave as we feel in love with Guatemala.

Our stay at Dita’s place was perfect! Dita and her family have an incredible property that is accessible to all cities along the bay via public water taxi, tuk tuk, or walking. The view was better than we could have imagined. A true slice of paradise. Dita is more than willing to support her guests in any way she can as she offered suggestions for local dining and shopping as well as arranged convenient transportation. We are already planning our second visit. Thank you, Dita!

This place is a little slice of heaven. It is honestly one of the most incredible places I’ve ever stayed in my life. The views are completely breathtaking, you have a ton of privacy, Dita and John are the sweetest hosts (that can make a mean meal to boot!). We were here during our last weekend in Guatemala after a month and it could not have been a perfect way to end our trip. We honestly stayed at the house the whole time except a few hours to explore close-by San Marcos. My husband and I will never forget this place and are already discussing the necessity of our return!

The loft and view are beyond beautiful. We loved everything about our stay! I highly recommend just getting some groceries in town and using the well-stocked kitchen to cook meals and allow for full enjoyment of the loft and views. We got to meet Dita briefly, and she was great. Miguel, who works at the house, was very helpful and responsive. One of the best places to stay ever!!!

Such a great place to stay right outside San Marcos on the lake. The view was perfect, breathtaking. I love to cook and was pleasantly surprised by how functional and prepared the kitchen was for cooking, mostly just the essentials but far more then I am used to while traveling. The house was so open and beautiful.

We stayed from March 27th to the 31st. It was our first time in San Marcos and at the lake. Truly an amazing experience and a great time. Dita and Michael are special hosts and have a rare and unique property! Will be back in the future I’m sure to spend a bit more time on the lake.

    Private Feedback:
Dita & Michael’s artist space is beautiful and a true find! The view and location are amazing. The kitchen is fantastic and we cooked many of our meals in it! I cannot say enough about the space that could do it justice. I would highly recommend anyone coming to this area to stay here!! Nothing – everything was great!!

A 5 star stay from start to finish, this really was the perfect trip! Dita was hugely helpful from the moment we booked including local tips, recommendations and advice. We had the most amazing breakfast on the private dock, relaxed at the nearby infinity swimming pool/ bar and then home cooked dinner on the private terrace (including a delicious birthday cake made by Dita herself!). This was without doubt the best vacation rental stay I have ever had. The views, setting and loft itself are wonderful. Thanks again Dita for everything!

The tranquil serenity, the majestic landscape, the international multitude of tree, plant and flower varieties, the hand crafted contemporary minimalistic furnishings that the host designed, the Feng shui, airy, natural light imbued architecture (which the host also designed) infused us with peace, relaxation, creativity and love. We can’t wait to return to our newfound nirvana.

What a wonderful experience! We simply cannot fault the trip. The loft is beautiful, peaceful and the views to lake Atitlan are amazing. Dita was a great host; she provided fantastic cooking that was literally bought up to our door and was always willing to help in anyway possible. We simply did not want t leave! Stay here, you will not regret it.
