This newly-constructed villa is the ideal retreat for three couples, two small families, or one large family who want to get away from the crowds. Located near the best surf spots in Costa Rica, it’s also off the beaten track, providing peace and quiet, monkeys, parrots and toucans – as well as unabashed luxury. If you need convincing, check out the indoor-outdoor pool, and the four terraces with views down the mountainside to the coastline.
There is so much about this villa that is appealing. First of all, its location is unforgettable. Perched on a hillside on the Nicoya Penninsula in Costa Rica – overlooking the ocean and surrounded in tropical forests. Then there’s the actual house itself. It’s newly-built and features every amenity you could ask for – at a very reasonable price.
The house has three large bedrooms, two with private terraces with stunning views of the coastline. It also has a fully-equipped, brand-new kitchen, with everything you’ll need to cater for yourself. Unless you fancy a private chef, whose services can be provided. And it’s this kind of dedication to extravagant relaxation that makes this property stand out.
Try this on for size. The beautiful outdoor pools (yes, there are two) make their way indoors under a glass wall into a Jacuzzi inside the living room. It’s the perfect spot for unwinding with cocktails in the evenings. If you fancy a swim, just duck under the glass. And don’t forget to turn on the underwater sound system. Because you can.
The outdoor deck is fully equipped too. Watch movies or play Wii games using the projector, veg out on the electronic massage chair, or close your eyes and do absolutely nothing.
The master bedroom has a private bathroom with a double shower and a Jacuzzi with overhead glass skylight for monkey-watching. The guest bedroom also has a private toilet and shower and its own outdoor terrace. The upstairs penthouse bedroom has a matching pair of front and back balcony terraces.
There are four decks in total, including two private bedroom decks and two common decks. Two bedrooms have individual air conditioning, while the second-floor en-suite has central air.
If you don’t want to spend your days lounging in the pool, there is plenty to do in the neighborhood. The Santa Teresa and Mal Pais area is renowned for its surfing, and there’s a great short board beach break just at the bottom of the hill.
If watching nature’s more your thing, you’ll love the local howler monkeys, whiteface monkeys, parrots, toucans, iguanas, armadillos, anteaters and multicolored birds that surround the house. If you’re really lucky, you’ll see whales swimming by. And if you’re feeling more adventurous, take a caopy tour through the forest to get up close and personal with the local fauna.
There are lots of great little restaurants, with food from Argentina, France, Italy and Israel, as well as the local Tico fare. Staff are available to book private catering, tours, surfing excursions, diving, snorkeling and anything else that you might need.
Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. Nearest airport: Juan Santamara International Airport (113km) or Tambor Airport (20km).
