It’s fifteen minutes from the nearest village, and there are only five houses along this 4km stretch of coast. Perfect isolation.
A South African family living in England built this home to escape to. They describe it as ‘our little piece of heaven right on the beach’. And it’s easy to see why.
It’s far off the beaten track, and surrounded in nature, with 180-degree sea views. Located between Cape St Francis and St Francis Bay, it stands beside the original beach cottage that has been in the family for more than a hundred years. There are only four other families with holiday houses along this stretch of coast, and all have known each other for years.
The property has a lovely windswept, maritime feel, with decor that looks like it might have drifted in to the shore. We love the playful bunting, the three colorful surfboards mounted on the wall, the basket storage systems, and the rattan rugs and furnishings.
The living area is light and airy, with a fantastic fireplace that doubles as an indoor BBQ and an open-plan kitchen. There are four bedrooms, with an assortment of bed sizes, perfect for two families sharing.
Fun features include an outdoor shower and a bathtub located under the milkwood. There is a small sandy beach directly in front of the house, with rock pools at low tide that provide hours of entertainment for kids.
Linen and towels are provided. Amenities include a clothes dryer, a dishwasher, cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer, and washing machine.
The house is situated under the dunes on a scraggy beach, with tide pools and opportunities to watch whales and dolphins. Long white sandy beaches (for swimming and surfing), however, are only 15 minutes away at St Francis Bay and Cape St Francis.
Restaurants, shops, dentist and doctors are all close by. Walk along the coast to the lighthouse, about 5km away, and have lunch in Cape St Francis.
There is a beautiful award-winning Jack Nicklaus links golf course in St Francis Bay, and a world-renowned surfing spot in Jeffreys Bay only 35 minutes away.
Addo Elephant Park and Shamwari Game Reserve (to the east) and Tsitsikamma National Park and upmarket Plettenberg Bay (to the west) are all less than two hours drive away.
