This is a truly jaw dropping and emotionally stirring location and this stunning residence inhabits the site in graceful harmony with the natural world. We love the dramatic architectural silhouette, the unification of form and function and the beautifully designed interiors that are a refined mix of vintage modernism and classic style. A dazzling and inspiring combination!
Set on two hundred and sixty six acres of pristine African wilderness and set against the imposing peaks of the Langeberg mountain range, this magnificent property boasts an awe-inspiring view into the heart of what the locals call “God’s Window.” Designed by Johannesburg-based architect Georg van Gass of Gass Architecture Design Studio and landscaped by Patrick Watson, the artistic achievement is eclipsed only by the breathtaking setting. Employing beautifully defined lines and structural compostion of masonry, concrete and glass, the U-shaped structure was designed to engage the surroundings with three distinct wings formed around the massive interior courtyard.
The large glass facade of the main structure features a soaring roofline that is oriented towards the view and contains the central living area with an open plan kitchen and a walk-in wine cellar as well as the master bedroom, a music room, and state of the art entertainment and media room. To both sides of the main structure are two luxury guest suites that can accommodate up to six guests, each with ensuite glass framed baths that bring the environment in. Intimate and serene, the interiors feature a minimalist approach with a mix of vintage and contemporary furnishings and decor that’s sophisticated but unpretentious.
The vast lush grounds stretch out before you and include a large pool and stables as well as private mountain and forest trails reserved exclusively for guests. This is a magical place that invites you to experience a unique home and an enchanting land you won’t forget.
Optional concierge and tour services available: whale watching in Hermanus (considered the world’s best land based viewing) white shark cage diving and bespoke private game farm itineraries can be arranged to suit the needs of the most demanding tastes. Wifi throughout, state of the art BluRay home theater, housekeeping and laundry facilities. Fully stocked wine cellar of rare and fine South African wines. Fully equipped gym.
The name is not an exaggeration. This is a magnificent area dominated by the Langeberg mountain range and deep verdant valleys just off the world-renowned Route 62, in the district of Swellendam. With private trails that follow the nearby river into the ancient forest that borders the Marloth Nature Reserve, there is much to explore directly from the property. Located in the heart of the Overberg, it’s a fifteen minute drive to the two main agricultural towns of Montagu and Swellendam. To the east, the famous Green Garden Route traverses the South African coastline and to the south is the De Hoop Nature Reserve along the coast. It’s a two and a half hour drive west to the “Mother City” of Cape Town and Table Mountain through some of the best wine land, and a two hour drive south east to the harbor and beach town of Mossel Bay along the Indian Ocean.
