We love the gorgeous contemporary tropical style of this luxury boutique hotel in Brazil. It’s remote, far from the well-trodden tourist paths, giving it a great feeling of seclusion. It’s also surrounded in a tropical garden and seconds from a lovely private beach, making it perfect for romantic getaways.
Camamu Bay Villas Barra Grande, Bahia, Brazil
This beautiful beachfront hotel is located well off the beaten path, on the Peninsula de Maraú, at the entrance to Camamu Bay in Bahia, Brazil. It’s a stunning space, with six suites, surrounded in tropical gardens with a gorgeous pool, lounge pool bar and restaurant. It’s also minutes from its own private beach.
We love the contemporary Brazilian tropical decor, the simple but strong lines of the interiors, and the breezy white linens. The mood is simple, elegant glamor, but the hotel still manages to feel homey. There is no reception desk – just a living room, where guests are met with cocount water and a Caipirinha on arrival.
There are six suites in total, all with their own terraces. Two are at pool level, with sunset views. Three are on the first level, two with garden views, and one a mini loft with a striking walk-in bathroom. The final suite is the penthouse with panoramic views of the bay.
A great luxury boutique hotel in Brazil for couples wanting to get away from it all. For larger groups, the hotel can also be rented in its entirety.
Amenities include free wifi, refrigerators, air conditioning, parking, iPads on request, yoga mats, stand-up paddleboards, jet skis (additional cost), and a boat with captain for waterskiing, wakeboarding and island trips (additional cost). Breakfast is sourced from local organic products, using local recipes.
The hotel is located close to the village of Barra Grande – by car (15 mins) or the hotel’s own boat or jet skis (10 mins). Please bear in mind that this is a remote location. The Peninsula de Maraú is reached via an unpaved road, which can be challenging during heavy rain (and reaching the hotel by boat is sometimes recommended). There are no banks on the peninsula (bring cash), there is no cell phone reception, wifi is not fast, and the electricity is 220v (not 110v like the rest of Brazil).
Activities include day trips by boat or car, beach hiking, river kayaking, diving, fishing, horseback riding, massage sessions, yoga, Capoeira, surfing, traditional cooking lessons, stand-up paddleboarding, surfing, and whale watching (seasonal).
Barra Grande, Bahia, Brazil. Nearest Airport: Ilheus (2 hours by car).
