This hotel is a stunner. Wonderful modern architecture that at first feels too minimalist (for my taste and in regards to the surroundings) but at every glance becomes more and more beautiful. I loved the way the building was designed to mimic a Roman house with a large interior courtyard.

The decor was quite tasteful and furnishings were very comfortable. There is a bi-chromatic look of red & black that goes very well. I loved the traditional rugs (that looked quite modern) from nearby Monsaraz.

The rooms are HUGE and all have a private balcony to stare out to the lovely rolling hills and hear the cattle roaming and grazing nearby. The pool is a masterpiece. The place was so nice… I felt guilty leaving to explore the region! Definitely a 3-4 night minimum stay recommended!

Our hosts were kind and helpful, and served a wonderful breakfast every morning.

If you like your B&Bs architecturally designed with cool and stylish interiors (as we do) you will love Villa Extramuros. A beautiful place in the wild and rugged Alentejo countryside which, although just 20 minutes’ walk from the local town of Arraiolos and close to other properties, you feel as though you are miles away from anywhere.
Villa Extramuros is a lovely relaxed place where you are well looked after and provided with ideas on what to do and where to eat. It’s also well located to visit the surrounding Alentejo area and François was spot on when he said it would take us 1¼ hours to Lisbon airport!

My husband and I spend two weeks traveling around Portugal for our honeymoon, and though the whole trip was pretty magical, our stay at Villa Extramuros was our favorite part. Everything about this spot is impeccable, from the design to the service to the views. We had the pool pretty much to ourselves while we were there, and we absolutely loved having a lazy breakfast each day on our terrace.

Hugely stylish, small boutique property in the Alentejo countryside. The juxtaposition of the owners’ mid-century sensibility and the stark modern architecture of the building with the surrounding country landscape – olive trees, the medieval town of Arraiolos, the flocks of sheep – is really magical. Only five luxe, spacious and modern rooms (with amazing views of the countryside) makes you almost feel like this is your own private retreat. Lovely breakfasts served by the owners, a relaxing, quiet pool area with a huge infinity pool, and high-style decor throughout the property. And the owners will direct you to the best restaurants, sights and shopping in the area. The Alentejo – even the slightly larger town of Evora – still feels like a quiet region – not yet overtaken by tourists – and there’s a lot to see – so go now before that changes.
