Modern doesn’t quite explain it. This luxury boutique hotel in Porto is an ingenious design of fold away, multipurpose spaces and sleek minimal style. We love the space age all white interiors, the clever “sleeping cube,” and the wholesale reinvention of this historic townhouse by architects Barbosa & Guimaraes.
Flattered Porto, Portugal
This Portuguese townhouse dates back to the 19th century but the renovations by architects Barbosa & Guimaraes have brought it firmly into the 21st. Dramatic and minimal, there are small but clever eye catching details in the materials and contemporary decor set against the striking white interiors.
A cross between a small hotel and a totally private apartment rental in the charming historical city of Porto, the property is located on a street lined with traditional small shops. The building contains two comfortable apartments, each offering either city or sea views. While a breakfast basket and daily cleaning services are provided, the facilities are otherwise minimal and allows guests the freedom to discover the city at their leisure.
Both units contain a bedroom with double bed, living room, dining area, and fully equipped kitchen. The living area also contains a double bed and a 1-person sleeper sofa. The interiors are modern with a Portuguese twist, enhanced by the addition of illustrations by up-and-coming Portuguese artists adorning the walls.
The Seaview Duplex is the largest of the units and has amazing ocean views. The additional unit is a one-bedrooms offering a mezzanine. Each offers views over the winding streets of Porto or over the sea.
With a clever and creative approach, this hotel blends ease and style in a great central location.
Full concierge services (no reception area however) with breakfast, room service and daily housekeeping (also available as self catering). Laundry facilities, kitchen and bath amenities. Wifi, iPod docking station, satellite flat-screen TV/CD/DVD player. Airport transfers available. Optional massage/spa services, yoga, child care and eco-tour services available. Free public parking.
At the mouth of the Douro and along the Atlantic coast, you are steps from the beachfront and minutes away from central Porto. This seaside residential neighborhood has plenty of great local restaurants and shops to explore and is a sophisticated and quieter corner of the city. You can walk along the riverside to town or grab a five minute bus ride to the city center and see why it’s a UNESCO World Heritage site.
