The beautiful city of Porto in northern Portugal is often referred to as Cidade das Pontes – or the City of the Bridges. And this property pays homage to this nickname. It’s a collection of six minimalist contemporary apartments named after the city’s six famous bridges. And it features stunning views over the rooftops, the river and the bridges. A really cool vacation rental in Portugal that sleeps up to 24 guests.
These six apartments are located on the bank of the River Douro near the Dom Luís Bridge. A double-decked metal arch designed by Teophile Seyrig, a student of Gustave Eiffel, the bridge opened in 1886, spans the river between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia, and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This dramatic setting inspired the names of these six minimalist, modern apartments. The largest is D. Luís itself, which is ideal for families, two couples or a group of friends. The bridge has two decks, and this apartment has two bedrooms with room for six guests, as well as a deck with a stunning view of Porto.
Da Maria is the smallest of the apartments, with one bedroom that sleeps two guests. S. João, Freixo Arrábida, and Infante all have one bedroom and a sofa bed, with enough space for four guests. Each apartment has a bathroom and a kitchenette.
Design-wise, the apartments couldn’t be simpler. Bare wood, concrete, utilitarian furniture, no clutter, no frills, with breathtaking views and an unbeatable location. A great vacation rental in Portugal for couples, families or large groups.
Daily housekeeping, in-room breakfast, wifi, cable TV are included in the rental price. There is also a patio, and a store with regional products, ideal for purchasing gifts or souvenirs, or using in the kitchenettes.
Porto is the second largest city in Portugal, and has a beautiful historical center, designated a World Heritage Site in 1996. According to Lonely Planet, “humble-yet-opulent Porto entices with its higgledy-piggledy medieval centre, divine food and wine, and charismatic locals.”
But there’s more to the city than its past. Buildings like Álvaro Siza Vieira’s minimalist Museu de Arte Contemporânea and Rem Koolhaas’ Casa da Música bring the city into the 21st century. It’s a city full of public art and spirited nightlife. Yet it’s only minutes from the beach town of Foz do Douro, the coastal path and sandy beaches.
