Stokkøya Sjøsenter Stokkøy, Norwayrecommended by Heinz Legler
This is communal vacation living at its uncommon best – a truly unique collection of cabin rentals in Norway. At Sokkoya Sjosenter the main subterranean building (SUB) was inspired by old earthen cellars and carved into the sand creating a dazzlingly multi-unit compound. Designed to harmonize with the stunning Norwegian coastline, the owners have created this landmark hotel on the island of Stokkoya directly off the sands of Hosnasand Beach, integrating it gently into the wild natural surroundings.
The adjacent semi-private coastal houses maintain the same modern and minimalist design aesthetic and were developed along with the SUB as an environmentally low impact, high design community resort. There is also the adjoining hostel style Sea Center which sleeps anywhere from one to twenty people and has a communal bath and kitchen.
The clean modern interiors enhance the contemporary structural designs and all of the furnishings were personally selected by the creators resulting in an inspired collection. From Eames to lesser know Danish designers, reclaimed items and personal favorites, each room is highly curated but uncomplicated. Splashes of bold color and wall art installations give every room an individual artistic identity.
The Beach Bar is your destination for some of the finest local seafood in an informal setting and a great place to enjoy the extensive drinks menu along with amazing views of the coastline. With a new menu every day based on the daily local catch, all of the meats and seasonal produce are from the adjacent farm for a truly authentic meal.
Since it’s off the beaten path Stokkoya Sjosenter is equipped with a business center and Wi-fi throughout, satellite TV/stereo and CD player, meeting and lounge areas, toys, books and games for everyone. You can also relax and unwind with a soak in the barrel-like, wood-heated hot tubs. Kayaks are available to rent and guidance on all other water sports is provided. The Beach Bar creates a central social hub and place to enjoy each other and meet new faces.
Pristine Hosnasand Beach is front and center and perfect for boating, fishing and diving or just relaxing and strolling. The Halten Lighthouse sits offshore. You’ll want your own car as their are limitless areas to explore in nature and the small surrounding towns.
Off the coast of southeastern Norway, this 900 mile round island’s nearest to the city of Trondheim from which you can take a bus directly or drive.
