This lovely 18th-century palazzo in the Baroque town of Comiso has been converted into a collection of suites and rooms with stunning views. The rooms, with their ornate high ceilings and fabulous balconies, retain much of their old world charm, but they have been modernized with a simple, unpretentious elegance. This is a great small luxury hotel in Italy for couples, families, or large groups.
Sicilian Palace Comiso, Sicily, Italy
This new hotel in Comiso was built inside an 18th-century palazzo, which originally housed Italy’s nobility. Today it consists of seven apartments and two rooms, with plenty of room for small families and large groups alike.
The seven suites consist of one or two bedrooms, a living area, a bathroom and a kitchenette, and, impressively, they all have multiple balconies overlooking Piazza Fonte Diana, Via Di Vita or Via Ferreri. The two rooms on the third floor have one room and a bathroom, with access to a large terrace and panoramic views across the city.
One of the loveliest features of the hotel is its high ceilings, some of which retain their original frescoes. Bathrooms also have intricate tile work, and the rooms are furnished with antique Sicilian furniture and fine white linen.
In good weather, guests are invited to take breakfast in the beautiful Piazza Fonte Diana, with its unparalleled views of the palaces and churches. A really classic small luxury hotel in Italy, perfect for getting to know southeastern Sicily.
Each suite and room has air conditioning and an independent heating system, free wifi, wardrobe with safe, flat screen LCD TV, and private bathroom with shower and hairdryer. The suites also have living rooms and kitchenettes. Guests can enjoy spa treatments, available on reservation, in their own apartments, and can book the large outdoor pool.
The Concierge is available to help with requests, including shuttle service to and from the airport of Comiso, car rental, booking guided tours of museums, events, tours, etc. The hotel has two suites for the disabled.
The hotel is located in the heart of the Baroque Ibleo, and a few kilometers from the most beautiful coasts of Ragusa – 16km from Ragusa, 30km from Modica and 22km from Punta Secca (the Commissioner Montalbano beach) and Marina di Ragusa.
There are several notable churches in the town of Comiso, including the 15th-century Santa Maria delle Grazie, the 16th-century San Filipo Neri, and the 3rd-century San Francesco dell’Immacolata. There are also hot springs, first built in the Roman era that have mosaics dating back to the second century.
Comiso, Sicily, Italy. Nearest airport: Comiso (6km), the only airport in the southeast of the island.
