From its grand carriage entrance to its uniquely stylized interiors, this artfully designed boutique hotel fashioned from a nobleman’s home is an oasis of refined modern luxury, tasteful whimsy and historic romance. Intimate and stylish, we love the mix of graceful neoclassic style with eye catching modern accents, bold colors and prints from Cole & Son and Marimekko.
Immersed directly along Montpellier’s pedestrian zone, this lovely and romantic 18th century former nobleman’s residence has been in the same family for nearly two centuries. Restored and transformed by Alain de Borda and his interior designer wife Nathalie, the townhouse has been thoughtfully redefined with a careful respect for the history and spirit of the period and a dynamic modern spin.
Arranged over two floors, the interiors are spacious and grand with soaring ceilings, a sweeping stairway, elegant reception rooms and lovely decorative features. Housing five guest rooms, two suites and a separate apartment, the residence also features a cozy fireside drawing room and library as well as a glass roofed 14th century courtyard breakfast area. Each of the rooms showcase the historic 18th century architectural splendor with a few fun, cutting edge flourishes including the elaborate Cole & Son wallpapers, bold color blocking and contemporary furnishings and decor.
The largest of the two junior suites, Les Gypseries features floor-to-ceiling windows and a gorgeous bathroom with a massive tub and lovely hand carved cornices. The two ground floor suites, Les Papillons and Les Pavôts, feature full kitchens and are ideal for families or small groups to share and the apartment can accommodate up to six. The remaining deluxe rooms are cozy and compact and ideal for two and all are spread throughout the house for privacy.
Combining the perfect marriage between tradition and artistic contemporary style, this is the perfect antidote to a standard hotel.
Concierge services and breakfast served daily (with additional fee). Wifi throughout, flat screen LCD TV with DVD player, iPod docking audio, land line telephone. 100% cotton sateen sheets and organic toiletries. Optional limousine airport transfers available. Childcare services available.
Montpellier’s lovely historic center or Ecusson sits along the river Lez with a network of narrow alleyways, elegant mansions and stately commercial buildings. The old quarter is ideal for walking along the pedestrian-only Rue de la Loge where you can peruse the antiques and craft shops and stroll the nearby port. As home to the 13th century Université de Montpellier the town has a vibrant and contemporary youth culture and a mix of multicultural influences from North Africa and around the world. Some of the area’s best beaches including La Grande Motte, Carnon and Palavas les flots are within a half hour drive.
