Delightful and surprisingly curious in its tactile and mismatched design, this small boutique hotel has an unexpected retro appeal and fun eye catching charm. It’s the kind of thing we appreciate about personal style and hospitality.
Main Street Hotel Ypres, Belgiumrecommended by Veronique Lievre
Located along one of the main cobble stone streets in the center of Ypres, this stylish boutique hotel was designed with a completely unique and expressive style. The building’s historic character is well represented with many of its original features incorporated into the various themed suites and lounge areas and paired with luxurious modern updates. Welcoming, spacious and full of quirky character, the two story building houses six individually designed suites, each with tactile and offbeat furnishings and finishes and a potpourri of style. The lifelong ambition of husband and wife Carine and Stefan, the interiors reveal the different sides of their imagination with a healthy dose of humor and serious design cred.
Through the entrance hall are the cozy lounge and bar areas with a dining room that overlooks an anterior garden where you’ll be treated to a sumptuous breakfast. All six rooms feature hotel amenities and services and are outfitted with unique hand picked items and design to pique your curiosity. On warm days the garden terrace is the spot to hang out with friends, have a drink and enjoy the city.
Complimentary full breakfast buffet served daily. Nill Spring bed crafted in West Flanders, DVD players, flat screen TV, and safes. Some rooms have a private terrace while others offer a whirlpool or duo bath and a bathroom TV. Private parking garage by appointment.
The hotel is within walking distance of local attractions such as the Flanders Field Museum and Menin Gate as well as several traditional tea rooms, cafes and the central Grote Markt with a splendid array of Flemish delicacies. The area is home to the solemn WWI memorials and historic Salient battlefields but despite the weight of history, remains a vibrant town with a particularly time honored brewery tradition. Following it’s almost total annihilation during the war, the central medieval old town was meticulously restored including the famed Lakenhalle which was the center of the largest textiles trade in Europe, and is today one of the most spectacular buildings in Belgium.
