What we like about this property

We’re always delighted and inspired when human construction conforms to its environment rather than the other way around, and this small luxury hotel in Oaxaca lightly inhabits this tropical paradise with simple, hand crafted style. We love the all natural materials and stunning ocean and jungle views.

Description

Nestled above the Pacific coast atop the highest point of the Mazunte Valley, this small luxury hotel in Oaxaca is more about the luxury and splendor of unspoiled nature than extravagance.

Built and hand-crafted with natural and traditional materials, the compound includes just five free standing bungalows along with a soaring central palapa and dining pavilion overlooking the pool and the ocean.

Each of the double rooms are constructed at the tree line with high palm thatch roofs and ocean views. Simple, serene and uncluttered, each space offers a sense of calm seclusion surrounded by tropical gardens and all are equipped with open air ensuite baths constructed of giant bamboo.

Passionate about food and with only small groups to accommodate, the restaurant serves only the freshest ingredients from the in-house organic gardens and locally sourced and harvested foods, including the daily catch from the nearby fishermen.

Served in the open air dining area, you’ll enjoy a delicious and healthy rotating daily menu and lazy evening cocktails poolside.

Las Almas is the perfect place away from it all where you can allow your mind and body to rest and regenerate in a private and stunningly beautiful location.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

Breakfast served daily (with optional room service), fully staffed with housekeeping daily, complimentary airport car service. Locally and organically produced bath amenities. On site massage, yoga and spa treatments available.

AROUND

Located on the Oaxacan coast, the Pueblo Magico of Mazunte lies just west of San Agustinillo and thirty minutes south of Puerto Escondido. Situated along a scenic bay with the picture perfect white sand swimming beach of El Rinconcito, the surrounding jungle and cape Punta Cometa at the west end of the bay are scenic and lush. The town has expanded recently to include a small but mixed variety of cafes and shops and a laid back alt-community of expats and locals. A rural road leads to nearby Playa Mermejita, a small beach village with a smattering of cafes along a beautiful and wild beach. With intense currents and waves, it’s best admired from the shore. The area has transformed from a popular turtle hunting grounds to a preservation and ecotourism destination where the marine life is now protected in sanctuaries along with broad swaths of the surrounding land.

    Our most amazing escape!
My partner and I stayed for four gorgeous days at this wonderful hotel. It couldn’t of have been any more special. The attention Vladimir gave us was impeccable. The breakfast given was lovingly made with local ingredients – delicious!- . The location was perfect, just a 10 minute walk down to the beach with the best views of Mazunte. I will add Vladimir has a great taste in decoration and open spaces. We would be in the infinity pool every night, surrounded by candles, looking up at the stars.
I find I can go on and on about how ideal our experience was, so I will stop by saying we will be going back numerous times more. And of course a huge thank you Vladimir for making our stay unique.

    Magical weekend in Mazunte.
When you think about generosity you think about Las Almas. Such a magical place. Vladimir is a caring nice guy and about the best host. Every little detail is taken care of. The breakfast is really good and the Mezcal is the best I’ve ever tried. Beautiful rooms and very very comfortable bed. A MUST experience if you’re ever in Mazunte. The view at night (and day) from the jacuzzi WOW! Loved every minute there!

We arrived in Mazunte on the heels of hurricanes Aletta and Bud and I quickly learned a few new words in Spanish. Mar de fondo. This means your vacation is shot because the ocean is angry and anything that is in it will be sucked away never to be seen again. Fortunately, Las Almas had a pool and I figured we would try to make the most of a bad situation. Our first morning there, a breakfast spread was prepared where the owner sat with us and made us feel really at home and took the time to explain to us everything that Mazunte had to offer and answer any questions we had. The fruits were fresh and beautiful and the local delicacies like nopalese cactus intermingled with scrambled eggs made me feel like I was dining finely on top of a mountain in Mexico with a view of the ocean that only Mayan Kings and Acopulcan Princesses could dream of. This is probably because thats exactly what I was doing. The view is one that cannot be written about but only seen. The distance between the outdoor lounge area of the hotel and the ocean are acres of lush green jungle and tuffets of floral fauna that run through the colors of the rainbow. Even the wildlife is different. Parrots sat in the trees and talked to one another while we lounged by the pool drinking hand crafted beverages by the host. At Las Almas “Mi casa es su casa” is not just an expression, Vladamir encouraged us to act like we were at home. If our glass was empty he encouraged us to take advantage of the fully stocked bar and if we were hungry to help ourselves to the refrigerator that was replenished by the cook staff daily. However, when we wanted to dine out, he was very knowledgable of all the restaurants, schedules and their specialities. He also took us to a yoga class on the side of a cliff that stared directly at the ocean. He had a masseuse come to the hotel to give us 1.5 hour long massages and facials. As the ocean got back to normal he offered to arrange for us to go swim with the dolphins and sea turtles. It was truly a magical experience. The hospitality was second to none. It was as if the hurricanes never happened. Will most definitely go back.

    Stunning place
This hotel is built in nature with nature. Gorgeous room, views and pool it’s the perfect place to switch off and go back to basics. The room had a beautiful view of the ocean, and an open wooden shower and windows. Vladimir came to pick us up from the airport which was great after an early morning flight. Delicious breakfast. Highly recommend it!

My girlfriend I had an incredible time staying at Las Almas! We would definitely return to this magical spot.

The hotel is impeccably designed but simple and rustic. Vladimir has great taste – his hotel fits in well with the relaxed surroundings of Mazunte, while offering all of the comforts and service you might want while on vacation. The place is a short walk or an extremely brief cab ride away from Mazunte proper and its beach, and it’s easy to take a quick car to other nearby beaches if you want to explore further. We spent about half our time close by, in Mazunte and San Augustinillo, and we laso took a day or two to venture further along the Oaxacan coast. That said, the hotel itself is a beautiful place to spend the day – it’s got incredible views, a lovely little pool, two friendly cats, and plenty of peace and quiet.

The lovely staff at Las Almas serve a hearty breakfast every day that is not to be missed. Those breakfasts were hands down the best meals we had on our vacation, and some of the best breakfasts we’ve had in Mexico, period. Incredible chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, homemade bread, granola, and jam…it was all superb.

In addition, Vladimir is a fantastic host. From the moment we arrived, he treated us as guests in his home rather than visitors passing through a hotel. We spent a lot of time getting to know each other, and his warmth, hospitality, and humor were a totally unexpected and wonderful additions to our vacation. We’re planning to keep in touch, and we hope to be back one day soon!

    Absolutely Wonderful!
I had an absolutely wonderful stay for 3 nights. Omar was extremely helpful with recommendations for beaches and restaurants around the area. I had three lovely breakfasts on the patio. The rooms are quaint and comfortable and the views are stunning. Highly recommended!

Vladimir was the consummate host. My family and I stayed at this marvelous property during the week of Thanksgiving. Vladimir made us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The property is in a terrific location in Mazunte that makes you feel like you’re tucked away in a remote jungle, but still within walking distance to the town and the beach. The view from the living room is incredible and the morning sunrises that can be seen from anywhere on the property were a delight to wake up to. We loved the morning breakfasts, which were some of the best we had during our entire stay in Mexico, and the Thanksgiving feast that he spent all day preparing was one of the best Thanksgiving meals we’ve ever had. I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway filled with yoga, beach, massage, and great food. Can’t wait to go back!
