We’re fans of the simple and earthy North African aesthetic and this authentic B&B offers all of the intimacy and atmosphere of the traditional Moroccan homes of the past with an artsy modern vibe. With the option to rent one of three rooms or the entire house, it’s also one of the few pet friendly vacation rentals we like in Morocco.
Situated just a few minutes from the vibrant coastal town of Essaouira, this newly constructed B&B draws from the most authentic Moroccan and Berber traditions and pairs it with contemporary comforts and warm hospitality.
Designed and dreamed up by French expat Sophie Lepeuple, the focus is on the timeless quality of the culture and simple chic living. Completed and opened in 2015, the house is an intimate take on vacation rentals, where you can rent just one of the three rooms or the whole house with a feeling of privacy and tranquility.
Constructed entirely of limestone by local artisans, the exteriors are awash in the colors of the desert while the interiors are cool and minimalist with colorful furnishings, art and decor from North Africa and around the world. There are two en suite double bedrooms and an additional suite that can accommodate up to four that includes a living room, bedroom and dressing room with a full bath. The main living room features a wall of glass doors and windows overlooking the pool and gardens and includes a fireplace for winter evenings and fully equipped kitchen where the in house chef prepares breakfast daily with the option of additional meals upon request.
Sheltered from the wind and sun, the exterior living spaces are comfy and casual with lounge and dining areas scattered about. Simple, soothing and stylish, Dar Alya is an inviting escape for a holiday in the sun close to the sea.
Breakfast included with optional additional meals available with reservations. Daily housekeeping included with optional laundry services. Optional car and driver, airport transfers, in room spa and massage treatments. Guides and recommendations of local restaurants, shops provided. Wifi throughout with Bose MP3 audio system. Luxury linens and bath amenities.
Located within a few hours of Marrakech, Essaouira is southern Morocco’s legendary beach town. Unlike the big city, Essaouira is laid back and timeless with sandy-colored ramparts, whitewashed avenues, French-style piazzas, and a port full of azure blue fishing boats. The medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the beautiful fishing harbor are great places to explore each with a great selection of restaurants. There are beautiful sandy beaches nearby renown for excellent surfing spots. Don’t miss a camel ride to the famous crumbling fort Bordj El Berod and the traditional souks as well as the famous music and cultural festivals. The Gnaoua World Music festival, the city’s biggest annual event, is held every June and runs for three days – early booking is recommended.
Essaouira, Morocco. Nearest Airport: Essaouira (10km) or Marrakech (180km)
