A Nautical Nest
It's the perfect hideaway - a nautically-inspired nest overlooking the harbor in the beautiful Normandy fishing village of Port-en-Bessin. Arrive alone for some well-needed rest, or bring a lover for a romantic tryst.
This former fisherman's lodge, located in a row of little cottages overlooking the harbor, has been given a fabulously artistic makeover. A cocoon-like studio suitable for one or two guests, its original wood and stone features have been whitewashed and decorated in driftwood accents and seafaring trinkets.
The property is a large studio, on two levels - the living area on the lower level with an adjacent sleeping area, and the mezzanine den above. To its rear is a courtyard with deckchairs and a barbecue.
Design features include little boats hung on the walls, decorative life vests and oars, as well as rope railings. Furnishings are eclectic vintage, with lovely old wooden benches and quirky pieces like a chest of drawers with large carved numbers.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES
The kitchenette has a dishwasher, combination oven (microwave, grill) and a coffeemaker. The upstairs den has a flat-screen home cinema TV, a DVD player and sound system, with a selection of movies and CDs.
AROUND
Port-en-Bessin has plenty to offer guests who don't want to drive. Walks along the sand, journeys by boat, buying produce from local fishermen or at auction, hiking trails, bike rentals... There's also a 36-hole golf course and a shipwreck museum nearby.
Activities within easy reach include farm visits, swimming (in a local pool), horse-riding, tennis and tree climbing, as well as trawling through flea markets and antique shops.
Slightly farther afield are windswept, sandy beaches, the American cemetery at Omaha Beach and the British cemetery at Bayeux, as well as Bayeux Cathedral and Tapestry, and numerous chateaux and farms. For those happy to drive over an hour there are plenty of other interesting destinations including the beautiful Mont St Michel.
