Creative editor Mariana’s picks for the coming year include two architectural gems in Oaxaca, Mexico. Discover why she chose them below.

dream destinations

CASA ORGULLOSA, OAXACA, MEXICO

“Oaxaca is one of my favorite cities in Mexico, and I have always been a fan of homes that have a bold architecture that can interact with nature. This house is not only that but also has an infinity pool to float the day away in, and is composed of natural materials that bring the outdoors in.”

LA CASA PEQUENA, OAXACA, MEXICO

“Small is beautiful, and this tiny house is the perfect space to get away from everything and enjoy nature’s contrast with its minimalist design. The room with a view will have you dreaming, letting go of your worries and becoming one with nature.”

Software developer Māris has chosen a 16th-century watchtower on Italy’s Amalfi Coast and a hidden gem inside a converted Tuscan palazzo. Find out why in his comments below.

TORRE PUNTA CAMPANELLA, AMALFI COAST, ITALY

“Italy has lots and lots of beautiful locations, but when I found this one I knew my search was finished successfully. A tower, maybe a fortress, where old meets new. Where today’s comforts live together with walls that whisper thousand-year-old secrets, if only you listen closely enough.”

dream destinations

UMAMMA, TUSCANY, ITALY

“I was looking for something modern, yet classic, with places to visit, architecture to enjoy, but with thick walls so the stresses of everyday work cannot get even close to me. Will I walk around, saying ‘ciao’ to everyone I meet, or close all windows and stay in the pool within?”

Our accounting manager Ana’s dream destinations are this dazzling contemporary retreat in Pringle Bay, South Africa, and an award-winning home on New Zealand’s dramatic South Island. Read on for her thoughts…

dream destinations

RESTIO RIVER MODERN, PRINGLE BAY, SOUTH AFRICA

“I had the chance to go to Cape Town a few years back. We drove down the coast to Gordon’s Bay and wanted to make it all the way to Pringle Bay but didn’t have enough time, so going back to South Africa is on my list. Staying in a place like this with a small group is my idea of relaxation, luxury and fun.”

PIGEON BAY, SOUTH ISLAND, NEW ZEALAND

“New Zealand has been on my list of places to visit for many years. This house in particular makes the top of my list, mainly for its location, isolation and closeness to the ocean. The simple but elegant design is the cherry on top. Perfect destination for a romantic getaway.”

Our Marketplace manager Maya has chosen an enchanting trullo in Puglia plus a verdant retreat in the Balinese jungle. Read what she has to say about them.

dream destinations

NOSTRANO TRULLO, PUGLIA, ITALY

“This house is completely magical and really transports me to another time. Every little detail of the decor inside and out makes me feel like I’m living somebody else’s life… like in a movie scene!”

RUMAH HUJAN, BALI, INDONESIA

“I love the way its simplicity makes everything so grand, its open spaces, and the view of the jungle everywhere. You could be part of the past or the present for it is timeless.”
