Running away to Kauai

Thanks to our friends Samuel Elkins and Allegra Rose B. for these great pictures of one of our favorite homes. They recently traveled to the island of Kauai in Hawaii, where they stayed at the secluded Eco Luxe Longhouse near the tiny historic town of Koloa.

The Longhouse is as off-the-beaten-track as you can imagine. On a hillside overlooking 11 acres of undisturbed tropical landscape, it combines organic architecture with Japanese design elements including a generous deck that wraps itself around the home and offers stunning views out to the ocean. Custom built from local and Indonesian hardwoods, the house is spacious, airy and filled with original art objects that imbue it with the essence of Hawaiian culture but also take guests on journeys to Bali, Papua New Guinea and beyond.

Sheltered in the hills overlooking the southern shore of Kauai’s Kalaheo Valley, the house is within easy reach of Poipu Beach and makes a great jumping-off point to explore the island. Which is exactly what Samuel and Allegra did.

“We’ve been waking up here bright-eyed every morning to watch the sunrise over the ocean, snack on fresh island fruits, and explore hidden beaches,” they told us. “We drove the coast from Poipu to Hanalei, had strawberry guava kombucha, and went swimming at Hideaways Beach.”

Allegra and Samuel are frequent travelers, but this location really struck a chord. “I’m sunburned but could not be happier,” said Allegra, “and feel so blessed to be able to even set eyes on such a place as this. Everyone on the island seems to have this common mentality of finding beauty in the untouched wonder of nature.”

We stayed at the Longhouse for a couple of days during our honeymoon… we just LOVED the place. It is hidden in the hills, you can only see the forest and the Ocean, you only hear some roosters and donkeys… it‘s magical!!! I loved the outdoor shower and the terrace as well as the little jacuzzi. Great place, I will definately come back!!
I fell in love with the house and Kauai the minute we drove down the road and saw it for the first time… unforgettable ?
